Tonight was the 20th meeting all-time between Notre Dame and Maryland and the first since a 78-71 Terrapin victory on Dec. 4, 2011, in Washington, D.C. ... the series is tied 10-10 ... the Fighting Irish are 2-2 against Maryland under head coach Mike Brey ... this was Notre Dame's first visit to College Park since Dec. 31, 1986 (a 63-50 Irish win) ... the Fighting Irish are 3-5 all-time at Maryland.
Eric Atkins (Sr./G), Pat Connaughton (Jr./G), Demetrius Jackson (Fr./G), Steve Vasturia (Fr./G) and Garrick Sherman (Sr./C) started tonight's contest ... this was Notre Dame's sixth different starting lineup this season ... Atkins, Connaughton and Sherman have started all 17 games this season ... Jackson has started 12 games, while it was the first career start for Vasturia.
With Demetrius Jackson and Steve Vasturia starting tonight's game, it marked the first time Notre Dame has started two true freshmen in the same contest since March 16, 2007, when rookies Luke Harangody and Tory Jackson were in the starting lineup in a 74-64 loss to Winthrop in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
