Recap |  Box Score

Ryan Ayers, Sr., G
On his off-season improvements...
"With all of our guys coming back, I felt that I needed to step up and become a more aggressive leader. Especially in the spring and into the summer. I wanted to be aggressive all summer and I have carried it over."

On shooting inside of the arc...
"That is something I wanted to work on in the off-season. When teams take away my three-point ability, to be able to get in the lane or do a one-dribble pull-up or a medium range jumper will help get expand my game."

Luke Zeller, Sr., C
On Tory Jackson's energy...
"Tory brings so much energy, even with just little things. He's a ball player on defense. He picks everybody else up."

On scoring at key times during the game...
"Scoring off of timeouts and inbound plays is really important. We have to get better at that but it's definitely something to build on."

Kyle McAlarney, Sr., G
On Ryan Ayers...
"They really were extending out on me. As soon as they do that, Ryan has got to take advantage of that. He's been doing that the past few months and that's what we need to do - take it to the basket, take a couple shots, just be aggressive. He has really improved since last year and has a lot more confidence."

On Tory Jackson's near triple-double...
"That's his game. You might not see him score 18 points consecutively because of all the guys that can score on this team but he can definitely rebound. With the way we shoot and rebound, his assists will definitely be up there. It just shows how unselfish we are."

On playing like a top-10 team...
"We have to flush that out of our heads. We need to go out and play - that's our strength. We didn't do that tonight but it was the first game. We definitely weren't at our best but it's a process and we'll look better tomorrow."

Tory Jackson, Jr., G
On the team's performance...
"They shot well. We can't take anything away from that team. They shot the ball from deep. Towards the end of the first half we protected the passing lanes and got them out of their offense. They weren't comfortable and they couldn't get off a good shot and it carried over to the second half."

On the expectations for the game...
"We actually talked about it, saying that they have to be shooters. That's what we talked about. A team like that doesn't have anything to lose coming in here. But they have great people, great players on their team and they're going to do well."

On his scoring performance...
"My scoring didn't mean as much to the team as Jonathan Peoples did today. He did a good job and picked me up, and the points that I got were basically off what Jonathan Peoples was telling me about. He picked me back up. I came out strong, and when I drifted away, Jonathan Peoples did a good job of picking us back up."

Notre Dame Head Coach Mike Brey
On Briar Cliff's play...
"Briar Cliff is really a great team. They came in really excited and shot well early on. They are tough to guard in that way because they are quick and undersized. It was a hard match up for us."

On the lessons learned from the Briar Cliff game...
"Having this exhibition game against Briar Cliff really gave us a good workout for 40 minutes. We have a lot of good tape to learn from by playing this team. We have a good place to work from and will be working hard for the next couple weeks."

On naming Kyle McAlarney, Ryan Ayers, Zach Hillesland and Luke Zeller for 2008-2009 team captains...
"I don't know if there are better leaders in the four years since I've been here. This year's senior class has really been exceptional in our program. We have other players on the team who are leaders for us: (Tory) Jackson, (Luke) Harangody and even (Jonathan) Peoples."
