ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Chris Hamey scored 22 points, 18 of them in the
second half, as Alaska Anchorage defeated Notre Dame, 88-82, in overtime in a
consolation-round game at the Great Alaska Shootout.
Jim Hajdukovich added 21 points and 10 rebounds for the Division II
Seawolves (3-1), who outscored the Irish 12-6 in the extra period to lock up
the victory.
J.J. Pilgreen pitched in with 11 points, including a putback on his own
missed free throw with four seconds remaining in overtime to provide the
winning margin. Serge Using grabbed 14 rebounds and swatted away seven shots
for Alaska.
Freshman Troy Murphy had 21 points and a game-high 17 rebounds to pace Notre
Dame (1-4). Antoni Wyche also scored 21 for the Irish.
A 3-point play by Wyche and a pair of Murphy free throws gave Notre Dame a
74-71 lead with 2:21 left in regulation. After the teams traded baskets,
Hajdukovich drained a 3-pointer with 33 seconds on the clock to force the
overtime.
The Irish jumped out to a 17-7 lead in the early going before Hajdukovich
ignited a 28-9 rally that put the Seawolves up by nine. He scored 14 of his 16
first-half points in a four-minute stretch.
Notre Dame trimmed the difference to 37-32 at the break.
