Friel's 27 Leads Irish to 91-81 Victory
NOTRE DAME, Ind. - Keith Friel scored 27 points as he connected
on nine three-pointer to lead four Irish players in double figures as Notre
Dame posted a 91-81 victory over Marathon Oil in exhibition test Tuesday
night at the Joyce Center.
Friel hit his first seven from three-point range, including six in the
first half as the Irish connect on 53.8 percent from the beyond the arc in
the contest. Notre Dame was 14-of-26 in the contest.
Freshman Leviticus Williamson played 26 minutes and had a14 points and
seven rebounds, while Phil Hickey and Antoni Wyche each added 11 points.
Freshman Martin Inglesby had 12 assists in 33 minutes of action and
committed just four turnovers.
Marathon Oil was led by Daryl Cunningham's 22 points.
Notre Dame jumped out to a 22-point lead in the first mostly on the
strength of its outside shooting, but Marathon Oil cut the deficit to eight
at halftime, 50-42.
The Irish build a 15-point advantage with 14:00 minutes to play in the
second half, but Marathon Oil fought back and cut the lead to three, 78-75,
with 6:52 to play in the contest. Notre Dame, however, held Marathon Oil
to just one basket in the final 4:22 of the game.
