Notre Dame Holds off Boston College

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) - Pat Garrity scored 31 points and grabbed 11 rebounds
to lead Notre Dame to a 75-72 Big East win Wednesday over Boston College.
Nineteen of Garrity's points came in the second half as Notre Dame (12-9,
6-7) held off a late rally by the Eagles (12-13, 4-10) to pull out the win.
Phil Hickey scored a career-high 21 points for the Irish, including two free
throws with 48 seconds to break a 70-70 tie. Garrity hit two more from the line
with 17 seconds left to give the Irish a three-point lead.
Boston College center Mickey Curley missed a 3-pointer with three seconds to
go that could have tied the game. It was Curley's first career 3-point attempt.
Garrity and Hickey combined to score Notre Dame's first 12 second-half
points as the Irish increased a one-point halftime lead to 54-44 midway through
the period. The Irish led 67-56 with 5:15 to go after a Hickey dunk and free
throw.
Duane Woodward then scored nine of his 23 points during a 14-3 run as the
Eagles rallied to tie the game at 70-70. Notre Dame hit 5-of-6 free throws in
the final 48 seconds to pull out the victory.
Kostas Maglos added 18 points for Boston College while Antonio Granger added
17.
