NOTRE DAME, Ind. - Scott Martin (Valparaiso, Ind.), coming off a season-high 22-point performance in Notre Dame's 93-74 win over Seton Hall in its BIG EAST opener on Saturday afternoon (Jan. 5) was today named the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll. It marked the first time in his career he has earned a BIG EAST honor. He also is the first Irish player this season to garner a player-of-the-week selection.

Martin's 22-point outing against the Pirates was one point shy of his career best (23 versus Delaware State on Nov. 18, 2011), but did mark a personal best for him in a BIG EAST game and also was the third time in his career that he topped the 20-plus point mark. Against Seton Hall, he connected on eight-of-11 shots from the field and made a career-high six three-point field goals on seven attempts. In the game, Martin also grabbed five rebounds in 31 minutes of action.

The sixth-year senior, who recently scored his 1,000th career point, is averaging 9.5 points and a career-best 6.8 rebounds. Martin has scored in double figures in contest and has grabbed 10-plus rebounds in one game (17 versus Evansville in the season opener).

He is shooting 47.3 percent from the field (44-93), up from last year's 39.9 percent, and has connected on career-best 50.0 percent (27-54) of his three-point shots. Last season, Martin made just 26.1 percent of his three-point attempts. He leads the Irish in three-point field goal percentage (and is second in the BIG EAST) and in three-point field goals made.

Martin and the Irish are 13-1 on the season and ranked 17th in the Associated Press and 16th in the USA Today/ESPN rankings. Notre Dame's 13-1 start to date matches the best-ever under head coach Mike Brey. The last time the Irish suffered just one loss through their first 14 games was during the 2006-07 campaign.

Brandon Triche of Syracuse was named the BIG EAST Player of the Week, while Ryan Arcidiancono of Villova garnered rookie-of-the-week recognition.

Joining Martin on the league's Honor Roll were Cashmere Wright of Cincinnati, Davante Gardner of Marquette, Eli Carter of Rutgers and D'Angelo Harrison of St. John's.
