Russell Carter Named To BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll

March 5, 2006

Notre Dame, Ind. - Russell Carter (Paulsboro, N.J.), who averaged 21.5 points, 6.5 rebounds and 3.0 steals in leading Notre Dame to wins over Providence (82-75) and DePaul (66-61) that helped the Irish earn a berth in the 2006 BIG EAST Men's Basketball Championship, was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll. It marks the first time that Carter has earned the honor.

Quincy Douby of Rutgers copped player-of-the-week honors, while Dominic James garnered rookie-of-the-week accolades. Joining Carter on the honorable mention team were Solomon James (South Florida), Donald Copeland (Seton Hall), Gerry McNamara (Syracuse) and Randy Foye (Villanova).

In Notre Dame's two wins last week, Carter registered back-to-back 20-point outings. In fact, the junior guard heads into Wednesday's first-round contest of the BIG EAST Tournament against Georgetown having scored 20-plus points in three consecutive games (a first in his career).

Carter is having his best season in an Irish uniform and is the team's third-leading scorer, averaging 11.7 points and 5.2 rebounds. He has topped the 20-point mark on four occasions that includes a 24-point career-best against Louisville. In the last three games, he is averaging 21.0 points, 6.0 rebounds and 2.0 steals, while shooting 56.7 percent from the field (17-30), 52.9 percent from three-point range (9-17) and 80.0 percent (20-25) from free-throw line. In addition, he has netted double figures in eight of the last 10 games and in 16 contests overall.
