NOTRE DAME, Ind. -
Junior Carleton Scott (San Antonio, Texas) has been named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll after averaging 13.0 points and 13.5 rebounds in Notre Dame's two wins last week over Connecticut (58-50) and Marquette (63-60 in overtime).
Scott, who earns the honor for the first time in his career, registered his first career double-double in the Irish's regular-season home finale against the Huskies as he finished with 12 points and a career-high 14 rebounds. In Notre Dame's win against the Golden Eagles in the final regular-season contest, he scored 14 points and grabbed 13 rebounds. Scott hit the three-pointer with one second remaining in regulation to send the game into overtime as Notre Dame battled back from a being seven points down (50-43) with 1:19 remaining in the contest.
The 6-7, 217-pound forward has played in 30 of the Irish's 31 contests and been in the starting lineup each of the last five games. He is averaging 4.6 points overall and 4.5 rebounds overall and 4.7 points and 4.7 rebounds in conference games. Since becoming a starter, he has netted 11.6 points and 9.2 rebounds and scored in double figures in three straight games. Scott scored a career-high 17 points and grabbed nine rebounds in Notre Dame's win at Georgetown on Feb. 27.
West Virginia's Da'Sean Butler was named the BIG EAST Player of the Week, while Lance Stephenson of Cincinnati earned the league's rookie-of-the-week honors.
Joining Scott on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll were Ashton Gibbs (Pittsburgh), D.J. Kennedy (St. John's), Herb Pope (Seton Hall) and Dominique Jones (USF).
Notre Dame, winners of four straight, are 21-10 overall and finished the BIG EAST regular season with a 10-8 mark, its sixth 10-wins season in league play in the last 10 years. The Irish are the No. 7 seed in the upcoming 2010 BIG EAST Men's Basketball Championship, presented by New York Life which will be held March 9-13 at Madison Square Garden.
