NOTRE DAME, Ind. - The University of Notre Dame men's basketball team will play the University of Massachusetts and Providence College in the 2014 Tip-Off Tournament Nov. 22-23 at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn. The pairings and brackets for the event, which is sponsored by the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference, were announced today (May 1) by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.
Notre Dame will be part of the Naismith Bracket and will play home games against Binghamton University (Friday, Nov. 14) and the United States Naval Academy (Sunday, Nov. 16) before facing the Minutemen and Friars at the Mohegan Sun.
The Irish will meet Massachusetts, a member of the Atlantic 10 Conference, at noon (ET) on Sat., Nov. 22 in the first-ever meeting between the two schools. Notre Dame will then take on former BIG EAST foe Providence at 2:30 p.m. on Sun., Nov. 23. The contest will mark the 27th encounter between the two schools. The Fighting Irish lead the series 16-10 and had won nine straight over the Friars before suffering a 71-54 setback on Feb. 16, 2013 at Providence in the last matchup between the two programs as BIG EAST members.
Both Massachusetts and Providence were part of the NCAA Championship field this past season.
