Aug. 21, 2004

Notre Dame, Ind. - Former Notre Dame center Tom Timmermans (Dreihuis, Netherlands) signed a contract on August 7 to play for the Cantabria Lobos, a professional basketball team in Spain. Cantabria is located in Torrelavega, Spain, a city 200 miles north of Madrid. The Lobos play in Spain's LEB Division I, which is comprised of 18 teams. Cantabria finished with a 16-14 record in 2003-04. As a senior last year, Timmermans enjoyed his finest season in an Irish uniform as he averaged career-bests of 6.0 points and 4.3 rebounds. The former Notre Dame captain started 16 of the 27 games, including the last 12 contests. Timmermans netted double figures in six games and was named CBS Player of the Game in the Irish win (75-60) at UCLA. In that contest, he scored a career-high 20 points and tied a personal best with eight boards. His other double-figure outings came against Syracuse twice (16 and 12 points), Kentucky (10 points), Seton Hall (10 points) and West Virginia (11 points). Timmermans grabbed a career-best eight rebounds on six occasions. A member of the BIG EAST Academic All-Star Team and a four-year monogram winner, he graduated in May of 2004 with a degree in marketing from the Mendoza College of Business. Former Louisville standout Marvin Stone also is a member of the squad.
