Woolongong, Australia -
Irish forward Luke Zeller (Washington, Ind.) finished with nine points and seven rebounds as Athletes In Action dropped a 11-83 decision to the Woolongong Hawks of the NBL. The contest was played on Monday evening (August 20) at the The Snake Pit in Beaton Park.
AIA was the aggressor in the first quarter, making it to the line 11 times. However, shooting woes for AIA gave the Hawks the upper hand. In a quarter that had five lead changes and two ties, neither team was able to break it open. AIA had the most opportunities, but 55 percent shooting from the line and 16 percent from three-point range limited their offensive efficiency.
The shooting woes continued in the second period as AIA missed four of nine free throws and all three point attempts. AIA was able to remain close by creating points off turnovers and brought the score to within four at 44-40. This would be as close as it would get the rest of the way. A Jimmy Graham dunk at the buzzer brought the score to 50-42 at the half. Texas A&Ms Josh Carter lead AIA in the half with 12 points and Miami's Jimmy Graham had 11. Zeller and Graham both had five first half rebounds.
Second half shooting didn't improve and neither did the game situation. AIA finished 20 for 34 from the line and 5 of 26 from three point land. For the game, AIA managed just 37.2 percent from the field. Josh Carter finished with 30 points, five rebounds, and 6 assists. Jimmy Graham added 15 points and six boards.
AIA will conclude the tour on Tuesday (Aug. 21) against the Sydney Kings at Sutherland Stadium.
