AS A JUNIOR: Played in three games in '98 as Irish quarterback, including first career starting assignment in regular-season finale at USC . . . battled rookie Arnaz Battle throughout the season for backup job behind Jarious Jackson . . . moved into number-two slot in November after Battle sprained his right shoulder vs. Baylor . . . took three snaps vs. Baylor and eight vs. Navy . . . was tabbed as starter the day prior to the USC game after sharing time in practice that week with Battle . . . played first four series vs. USC, taking 19 snaps . . . rushed seven times for 33 yards to rank second among Irish ground gainers in that contest - and attempted three passes, with two of them intercepted.
AS A SOPHOMORE: Did not play in a game at quarterback in '97 . . . played with Irish special teams in last four regular-season contests, making 14 combined appearances with kicking units, then made two more special-team appearances in '97 Independence Bowl vs. LSU.
