    Heads into senior campaign as most experienced of candidates in fight for starting fullback job for Irish in '99 . . . finished '99 spring drills neck and neck with Tom Lopienski for starting position . . . spent '98 campaign as top backup to veteran Jamie Spencer at that position . . . talented all-around player who made quick impact as rookie in '96, but had sophomore campaign in '97 sabotaged by early-season shoulder injury . . . similar to former Irish fullback standout Marc Edwards in style, with tough, physical, blue-collar work ethic a primary attribute . . . boasts all the tools to be top-flight contributor . . . excellent with the football and leads by example.

    AS A JUNIOR: Played in all 12 games in '98 as top backup to veteran Jamie Spencer at fullback . . . ranked fourth in rushing with 202 yards, with his 7.0-yards-per-carry mark tops among Irish running backs . . . made 158 regular-season special team appearances, more than any other player on Irish squad . . . worked with punt, kickoff return and field goal/PAT units . . . enjoyed strong outing in '98 opener vs. Michigan with nine carries for 43 yards . . . had top career day vs. Arizona State, with four carries for 109 yards, including 60-yarder (the longest rush by an Irish player in '98) that set up final Irish touchdown, plus earlier 20- and 24-yard gains . . . named ABC Sports/Chevrolet Notre Dame MVP vs. Arizona State . . . didn't carry the ball in '99 Gator Bowl vs. Georgia Tech but made 15 special team appearances.

    AS A SOPHOMORE: Irish starter at fullback to begin '97 campaign, earning first-team assignment in first three games of '97 . . . made first career start vs. Georgia Tech and had 57 yards on 12 carries . . . separated right shoulder on fourth-down, fake-field goal attempt vs. Michigan State and missed last nine regular-season games as well as Independence Bowl . . . worked briefly as linebacker during recovery period . . . made 22 regular-season special-team appearances.

    AS A FRESHMAN: Played in nine games as rookie fullback in '96, working behind Marc Edwards and Jamie Spencer . . . made 85 appearances with Irish special teams to help become one of six freshmen to earn monograms . . . only pass reception produced 22-yard touchdown play vs. Pittsburgh . . . scored a touchdown on 33-yard return of blocked punt vs. Rutgers . . . rushed four times for 26 yards vs. Washington, including 11-yarder that marked his long gain of season . . . had two carries for 10 yards vs. Boston College . . . carried the foootball vs. Purdue, Washington, Boston College, Pittsburgh and Rutgers.
