Two-year starter at safety in 1964-65 and was a consensus All-American in '65 . . . began career at Notre Dame as walk-on . . . made 106 career tackles, returned eight kickoffs for 185 yards, 39 punts for 612 yards and three touchdowns and had seven interceptions for 220 yards and one TD . . . led Irish in punt returns as junior and senior, with his 459 yards and 19.1-yard average in '65 leading the nation . . . his three TDs on punt returns in '65 was a single-season best and is still tops with Allen Rossum and Tim Brown . . . ranked eighth in '65 in NCAA interception stats . . . participated in 1966 College All-Star game . . . second-round selection by Atlanta and San Diego in 1966 NFL draft . . . his son Todd Rassas played for the Notre Dame lacrosse team and graduated in 1998.
