TEAM NOTES

  • Notre Dame's opening scoring drive covered 91 yards in 10 plays, taking 4:24 off the game clock. It was the longest Irish scoring drive of 2016, and the seventh scoring march of 75 or more yards thus far this season. Notre Dame scored the final 21 points over the closing 17:40 of the game.

INDIVIDUAL NOTES

  • QB DeShone Kizer rushed for his third touchdown of 2016 with a 14-yard scoring run in the first quarter. Kizer added a three-yard touchdown scamper in the fourth quarter as part of his third career game with multiple rushing scores.
  • Kizer has scored a rushing touchdown in each of his last five games, and in eight of his last nine games overall dating back to a win over Temple in 2015.
  • Kizer has thrown a touchdown pass in 14 of his 16 career games played after connecting on two scoring tosses in the second half, part of a career-high 344 yards through the air.
  • Sophomore RB Josh Adams surpassed the 1,000-yard career rushing mark with a four-yard carry in the first quarter. Adams is the fastest Notre Dame running back to reach the milestone (16th career game) since Darius Walker accomplished the feat in his 14th Irish game in 2005.
  • Adams was selected to wear the uniform number one on Saturday. The honor will be awarded weekly to the player who best represents the ideals of the program on and off of the field.
  • WR Equanimeous St. Brown hauled in his second explosive catch (45 or more yards) in as many games with a 48-yard reception in the first quarter. St. Brown covered 49 yards on a catch for the final play of the first quarter against Nevada.
  • St. Brown hauled in his third touchdown of the season on a 15-yard fade route to the corner of the end zone in the third quarter.
  • WR Torii Hunter Jr. added a career-long reception of his own in the third quarter. Kizer found Hunter down the sideline for a 47-yard gain during Notre Dame's scoring drive. Hunter finished with a career-high 95 yards on five receptions.
  • WR Chase Claypool covered 33 yards on his second career reception. The catch was Notre Dame's first official offensive play of the fourth quarter.
  • S Devin Studstill made his first career interception on a tipped pass by LB Daelin Hayes in the second quarter.
  • DL Jerry Tillery logged his first two official tackles for loss in 2016 with a pair of stops behind the line of scrimmage in the first half.
  • P Tyler Newsome connected on his longest career punt, pinning Michigan State inside the 10 with a 71-yard kick in the second quarter. It was the longest Notre Dame punt since a Hunter Smith attempt covered 79 yards against Arizona State in 1998.
