    PLAYING STREAKS
... The following players extended active starting streaks: senior OT Sam Young 48, senior OC Eric Olsen 29, junior QB Jimmy Clausen 26 and senior SS Kyle McCarthy 23.

    CLOSE SHAVES
... Notre Dame has become quite accustomed to nailbiting finishes. The Irish not only played in six consecutive games decided by seven points or less earlier this season (a school record), but the Irish have now played in eight total games this season decided by seven points or less. The eight games decided by seven points or less in a single season is a school record. The 1990 Notre Dame squad played in seven such games, including the Orange Bowl.
... No team in the FBS has even played in six games decided by seven points or less this season.

    NOTRE DAME AERIAL ATTACK
... Sophomore WR Michael Floyd and junior WR Golden Tate both registered 100-yard receiving games for the second consecutive week, marking the first time in school history the Irish have had two receivers eclipse 100 yards in consecutive weeks. It is the third time this season the duo has accomplished the feat in the same game (Tate and Floyd notched 100-yard games against Navy and Michigan). Oddly, the Irish have lost all three contests.
... Notre Dame has posted multiple receivers with 100-yard games 10 different times in school history and eight have come under Weis' tutelage.
... Floyd and Tate have teamed up for four such games over their career - surpassing the previous school record for a duo of three by Maurice Stovall and Jeff Samardzija.

    NOTRE DAME'S LONG MARCHES
... Notre Dame marched 80 yards on 11 plays on its first touchdown drive of the game. It marked the ninth touchdown drive of 80 yards or longer this season for the Irish. Notre Dame has also registered 22 touchdown drives of 70 or more yards.

    IRISH HINDERED BY FIELD POSITION
... Notre Dame was hindered by awful field position in the early stages of tonight's game. The first two drives for the Irish opened at their own nine and 13-yard line. Notre Dame's opening drive of the second quarter was not much better as it started at the 10-yard line. In fact, four of the six drives in the first half for the Irish opened inside their own 17-yard line.
... On the other hand, Pittsburgh benefitted from two of its six first-half drives opening at its 40-yard line or beyond.
... Notre Dame had three punts on the night that failed to sail further than 20 yards.
... Overall, Notre Dame had just three drives open outside its 30-yard line, while Pittsburgh had six such drives.

    INDIVIDUAL NOTES
    Jimmy Clausen, Jr., QB
... Clausen finished the evening 27-for-42 for 283 yards and one touchdown. He has now thrown a touchdown pass in 11 consecutive games. Clausen did his part to bring the Irish from behind for the sixth time this season. He already holds the single-season school record for fourth quarter comebacks and comeback victories.
... Clausen has been tremendous in the clutch for the Irish this season. He has recorded 17 touchdowns and three turnovers when Notre Dame has been tied or trailing (15 passing TDs, two rushing TDs).
... Clausen was 9-for-12 for 95 yards and one touchdown passing in the fourth quarter tonight. He has been at the top of his game in the fourth quarter and overtime all season.
... Clausen is now 65-for-105 for 881 yards with 11 touchdowns (two on the ground) and one interception in the final quarter and overtime this season. Here is Clausen's breakdown in the fourth quarter and overtime:

Game Comp. Att. Comp. % INT Yds TDs
    Nevada 1 1 100.0 0 15 0
    Michigan 9 17 52.9 0 77 1
    Michigan State 5 8 62.5 0 113 1
    Purdue 7 10 70.0 0 72 1
    Washington 7 9 77.8 0 119 1
    USC 11 21 52.4 0 117 2*
    Boston College 3 6 50.0 0 48 1
    Washington State - - - - - -
    Navy 13 21 61.9 1 225 2
    Pittsburgh 9 12 75.0 0 95 2*
    Totals 65 105 61.9 1 881 11*

    *includes a two touchdown rushes

... Clausen became the second Notre Dame quarterback to eclipse 3,000 yards passing in both multiple and consecutive seasons in Irish history (2008 and 2009). He joined former Irish All-American Brady Quinn, who eclipsed 3,000 yards in 2005 and 2006.
... Clausen recorded his second rushing touchdown of the season and fourth of his career.
... Clausen moved past Jarious Jackson (1999) and Brady Quinn (2003) into fifth place on the single-season pass attempts list.
... Clausen moved into sole possession of second place on the career passing touchdowns list.

    Michael Floyd, So., WR
... Floyd finished the night with 107 yards on seven catches.
... Floyd surpassed 100 yards receiving for the fourth time this season and the eighth time in his career. The eight career 100-yard receiving games moves him past Maurice Stovall (2002-05) for fifth in Notre Dame career history.

    Golden Tate, Jr., WR
... Tate finished the night with 216 all-purpose yards and 113 yards receiving on nine grabs, including a touchdown.
Tate now has 1,172 yards receiving this season, which ranks second best in single-season school history. He only trails Jeff Samardzija's total of 1,249 from the 2005 season. Tate has 2,383 career receiving yards, which ranks fourth best in Notre Dame career history. With his nine receptions, Tate also moved into a tie for fourth on the all-time career catches list (Jim Seymour, 1966-68, 138). His 74 catches this season rank fourth-best in single-season school history.
... Tate recorded Notre Dame's first punt return for touchdown since Tom Zbikowski against North Carolina in 2006. The punt return touchdown was the longest since Ricky Watters' school-record 97-yard punt return against SMU in 1989. Tate's return was the seventh-longest punt return in school history.
... The 100-yard receiving game is Tate's seventh of the season and the 13th of his career. He is now tied with Tom Gatewood (1969-71) for the school record for career 100-yard receiving games. The seven 100-yard receiving games in a single season are second best.
... No other FBS player has more 100-yard receiving games than Tate.
... Tate now has 22 career touchdown receptions (tied for second all-time) and 11 this season (tied for fourth all-time). He has recorded a touchdown reception in six straight games - just two shy of Jeff Samardzija's school record.
... He now has eclipsed 120 all-purpose yards nine times in 2009 and 17 times over his Irish career.
... Tate has registered 49 catches that have resulted in first downs this season. He also has 17 receptions of over 20 yards, including nine of over 30 yards. Tate has now recorded 40 receptions of at least 20 yards and 26 catches have gained at least 30 yards over his career.

    Sam Young, Sr., OL
... Young registered his 48th consecutive start this evening.
... Young's 48 career starts equals the school record. He is now tied with Tom Zbikowski (2004-07) and Maurice Crum (2005-08).
... Young remains the only Notre Dame offensive lineman to start every game of his career.
