NOTRE DAME POSTGAME NOTES
Vs. Wake Forest * Notre Dame Stadium * Notre Dame, Indiana * November 14, 2015

TEAM NOTES

  • The win was the 21st in the career of Notre Dame's current senior class at Notre Dame Stadium. This sum matches the record set by the 1990 Irish seniors and matched in 1991.
  • The Irish completed just their third undefeated and untied home season since 1989. Notre Dame also accomplished the feat in 1998 and 2012. The current senior class is the first to be a part of two undefeated and untied seasons at Notre Dame Stadium since the class of 1991, which were a part of the perfect 1988 and 1989 home campaigns.
  • The 98-yard TD rush by Josh Adams was Notre Dame's 11th TD of at least 50 yards this year, which is believed to be a school record. The 1988 team had 10 TDs of at least 50 yards.
  • The 99-yard TD drive was the 16th of at least 80 yards by the Irish this year, sixth of at least 90 yards and third of at least 95 yards.
  • Notre Dame has had at least one 100-yard rusher in eight of its 10 games this year.
  • The 21-0 margin at halftime was the largest shutout halftime advantage for the Irish since holding a 21-0 lead over Michigan on Sept. 6, 2014.
  • The Irish have had two TD runs this year of at least 90 yards (joining C.J. Prosise's 91-yard TD run against Georgia Tech on Sept. 19). There had only been two TD runs that long in the previous 126 seasons of Notre Dame football.
  • Today's game was the 200th contest between Notre Dame and a current ACC member. In its history, Notre Dame has only faced the Big Ten's current lineup more (386). The Irish are 138-59-3 all-time against today's ACC lineup.
  • Notre Dame is 7-0 this year when scoring first. The Irish have outscored their foes 106-43 in the opening quarter of games this year.
  • Today was the final game in Notre Dame Stadium's current press box. The Irish went 83-36 in the current one. The final game in the original press box was a 62-0 win over Rutgers on Nov. 23, 1996.
  • The win was the 54th of Brian Kelly's time with the Irish, surpassing Dan Devine for fifth-most in school history behind only Knute Rockne (105), Lou Holtz (100), Ara Parseghian (95), and Frank Leahy (87).

INDIVIDUAL NOTES

  • QB DeShone Kizer had his seventh and eighth rushing TDs of the season today. Kizer has a rushing TD in six of the last seven games. It is his second multiple-rushing TD game this season, joining his two at No. 21 Temple (Oct. 31).
  • RB Josh Adams' 98-yard TD run was the longest play from scrimmage in Notre Dame history. Previously, the longest play was a 96-yard TD pass from Blair Kiel to Joe Howard against Georgia Tech in 1981. The previous high for a rush was 92 yards by Bob Livingstone against USC in 1947.
  • Adams' 98-yard TD rush was the longest play from scrimmage in the nation this year, eclipsing Paul Harris of Hawaii's 95-yard TD run against UC Davis on Sept. 19.
  • Adams' 98-yard TD rush ties for the longest rush by a freshman in NCAA history. The mark was set by Jerald Sowell of Tulane at Alabama on Sept. 4, 1993, and matched by Jordan Parker of Middle Tennessee against Troy on Nov. 24, 2012.
  • Adams now has 553 rushing yards on his freshman season, surpassing Randy Kinder (537 in 1993), Allen Pinkett (532 in 1982) and Tarean Folston (470 in 2013), moving into fourth place in school history.
  • Adams' three 100-yard rushing games this year (UMass, Pitt and Wake Forest) ties for the most by a Notre Dame freshman since Autry Denson also had three in 1995, doing it against Boston College, Navy and Air Force.
  • Romeo Okwara's three sacks today were the most for a Notre Dame player since Prince Shembo had three against Arizona State on Oct. 5, 2013, in a Shamrock Series game at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
  • DL Andrew Trumbetti's "pick-six" was Notre Dame's first interception return for a TD since Dan Fox ran one back 14 yards against Arizona State on Oct. 5, 2013.
  • LB Jaylon Smith contributed 14 tackles (six solo) on the defensive side of the ball, adding one tackle for loss, one pass breakup, and one quarterback hurry.
  • TE Chase Hounshell had his first career catch, a six-yard grab for a first down during the third quarter.
  • Adams made his first career start today while DL Andrew Trumbetti made his first start of the season and the second of his career. The Irish have now had 36 different starters this year – 20 on offense and 16 on defense.
