NOTRE DAME POSTGAME NOTES
at Stanford * Stanford Stadium * Stanford, California * November 28, 2015

TEAM NOTES

  • Notre Dame’s 299 rushing yards tonight are the most by the Irish since running for 376 against Miami in the 2012 Shamrock Series game at Soldier Field.
  • The 533 yards of total offense is Notre Dame’s third time this year crossing the 500-yard plateau (Texas and Georgia Tech).
  • With scoring marches of 84, 86 and 88 yards tonight, the Irish have had 19 scoring drives of at least 80 yards in 2015.
  • Tonight is the first time that Notre Dame has had two 100-yard rushers in a road game since Randy Kinder (121) and Autry Denson (109) on Nov. 18, 1995, at Air Force.
  • Notre Dame has had at least one 100-yard rusher in nine of its 12 games this year.
  • The Irish have seen 11 100-yard rushing games this year, the most by Notre Dame since the Irish had 11 in 1983.
  • CJ Sanders’ 92-yard kickoff return TD and Will Fuller’s 73-yard TD catch give the Irish 13 plays this year of at least 50 yards for the Irish – a school record.
  • The 73-yard TD catch by Will Fuller is Notre Dame’s sixth offensive play this year of at least 70 yards.
  • The Sanders kickoff return TD is the fourth score for the Irish on special teams this year, the most since also having four in 2000.
  • Stanford became the first team to score first against the Irish since USC on Oct. 17. Notre Dame is 2-1 this year when the opponent scores first with wins over USC and Navy plus a loss to Clemson.
  • The Irish trailed after the first quarter tonight, 14-7. The only other game this year when the Irish trailed after the opening stanza came on Oct. 3 when Clemson led Notre Dame, 14-3.
  • Notre Dame’s five offensive plays in the first quarter are its fewest in any quarter this season. The Irish had only six snaps against USC in the first quarter on Oct. 17. The Irish scored 21 first quarter points against the Trojans.

INDIVIDUAL NOTES

  • WR Will Fuller’s 73-yard TD was his ninth TD this year of at least 30 yards and his 14th reception overall of at least 30 yards.
  • With his 136 receiving yards tonight, Fuller now stands in fifth place on the school’s seasonal chart (1,145) and seventh place (2,399) on the career list.
  • Fuller had his sixth 100-yard receiving game of the season tonight, tying Maurice Stovall (2005) for third in school history. It is the 10th of his career, giving Fuller sole possession of fourth place in school history.
  • Kizer had his second 100-yard rushing game of the year, joining his 143-yard night at Temple on Oct. 31. The 128 yards tonight ranks fifth in school history for a signal-caller and gives him two of the top five single game efforts in school history among QBs.
  • Kizer’s game-tying TD run with 0:30 to play is his ninth rushing TD of the year, tying the school record for a quarterback set by Tony Rice in 1988 and matched by Rick Mirer in 1991.
  • The late fourth quarter TD drive is the third waning moments go-ahead scoring march by the Irish in 2015, joining an 80-yard march to the end zone to beat Virginia with 12 seconds left on Sept. 12 and a 75-yard march to pay dirt with 2:09 to play to beat Temple on Oct. 31.
  • Josh Adams’ rushing total tonight is a Notre Dame freshman record, topping the 148 yards by Jerome Heavens on Nov. 8, 1975, against Georgia Tech in “the Rudy game.”
  • Adams now has 757 rushing yards on the year, second in school history for a freshman behind only the 786 yards by Darius Walker in 2004.
  • Adams had his fourth 100-yard rushing game of the year tonight, setting a school freshman record.
  • CJ Sanders had the first kickoff return for a TD since bay area native George Atkinson III returned one 96 yards for a TD against USC in 2011.
  • Sanders joins Allen Rossum (1996) and Vontez Duff (2002) as the only Irish players to return both a punt and a kickoff for a TD in the same season. Sanders also had a 50-yard punt return for a TD against UMass on Sept. 26.
  • The 182 kickoff return yards tonight by Sanders is third-best in a single game in school history behind only the 253 by Paul Castner against Kalamazoo in 1922 and Raghib “Rocket” Ismail’s 192 against Michigan in 1989.
  • Jaylon Smith has now eclipsed 100 tackles in consecutive seasons. The last Irish player to do that was Manti T’eo’s run of three straight years from 2010-12. Smith has reached double digits in tackles in five of the last six games.
  • Justin Yoon has now connected on 12 consecutive field goals with his three tonight. It surpasses the streak of 10 by John Carney (1984-85) for the fourth-longest run in school history. Yoon has not missed since Sept. 12 at Virginia.
  • Yoon’s three field goals tonight is a career-high.
  • Greer Martini had his first sack of the season late in the second quarter.
  • Devin Butler started his first game of the year at CB. He is the 37th different player to start a game for the Irish this season and the 17th on defense.
