Purdue is 6-5 and will await a decision on their bowl status.
Notre Dame concludes the 2001 season with a 5-6 record.
Purdue drops its first home game to an unranked opponent since
a 33-16 loss to Indiana to end the 1996 season.
Travis Dorsch's 50-yard field goal equaled his career high set
against Illinois on Nov. 3, 2001. It was the longest field goal against Notre
Dame since Sept. 23, 2000, when Michigan State's David Schaefer made a
50-yarder.
Dorsch now has 66 field goals, giving him the Big Ten
Conference record. Dorsch's fourth field goal gave him 346 kicking points, which
set a Big Ten record. The previous mark was 342 by Ohio State's Dan Stultz
(1997-2000).
Dorsch broke his own school season record with 20 field goals.
Pete Lougheed's 17-yard run was the first of his career.
John Standeford set career highs with nine receptions for 101
yards.
Ryan Grant's second-quarter 14-yard touchdown run was the first
of his career. He later had a career-high 18-yard run and finished the game with
a career-best 77 yards. His previous high was 18 yards against Tennessee.
Nicholas Setta has made 53 consecutive PAT's, tied for the
third-longest streak in Notre Dame history. Setta's 47-yard field goal equaled
his career high set against Purdue last season and matched against Texas A&M
earlier this season. His second-quarter miss was only his second of the
year.
Notre Dame's kickoff return for a touchdown was the first
against the Boilermakers since Nov. 6, 1999, when Nick Davis of Wisconsin
returned one 91 yards.
Jason Beckstrom's interception was the first of his career, and
it was Notre Dame's second interception return for a touchdown this season.
The Notre Dame victory is the first at Purdue since a 35-28 win
on Sept. 9, 1995.
The Irish claim back-to-back victories over the Boilermakers
for the first time since it put together a series-record 11-game winning streak
from 1986 to 1996.
Today's attendance of 68,750 was the Boilermakers' largest of
the season.
