Golden Tate Selected By Seattle Seahawks In Second Round of 2010 NFL Draft

April 23, 2010

NEW YORK - Former University of Notre Dame wide receiver Golden Tate was selected with the 60th overall pick by the Seattle Seahawks in the second round of the 2010 NFL Draft.

Tate becomes the first Notre Dame wide receiver drafted since Maurice Stovall was taken in the third round of the 2006 draft by Tampa Bay and is the earliest an Irish receiver has been selected since Derrick Mayes was drafted by the Green Bay Packers with the 56th overall pick in 1996.

A former running back, Tate exploded onto the scene as a sophomore and junior becoming one of the most electrifying players to ever wear a Notre Dame uniform. He ranks first in Irish history with 2,707 career receiving yards, ranks second in career touchdown receptions with 26 and is tied for third with 157 career receptions. Tate also owns the school record with 15 games of at least 100 receiving yards and ranks in the top 10 at Notre Dame in career all-purpose yards (4,130 yards, sixth in school history), total career kick/punt return yards (1,196 yards, seventh) and kickoff return yards in a career (909 yards, eighth).

In 2009 Tate became Notre Dame's first Biletnikoff Award recipient, presented annually to college football's top wide receiver. He was named Notre Dame's 31st unanimous All-American after being tabbed first-team All-America by American Football Coaches Association, Associated Press, Football Writers Association of America, Sporting News and Walter Camp Football Foundation. Tate recorded the best receiving season in Fighting Irish history with 93 receptions for 1,496 yards and 15 receiving TDs. He set single-season school records for receptions, receiving yards, most games with at least 100 receiving yards (nine), highest receiving yards per game average (124.7 yards), consecutive games with a TD receptions (eight) and tied the Notre Dame record for receiving TDs in a season.
