EST - Eastern Standard Time
EDT - Eastern Daylight Time
For a portion of the year, the Northern Indiana area does not change it clocks back (or forward) for daylight saving time. The Notre Dame area remains on EST all-year round. While the east coast is on daylight savings time, Notre Dame remains an hour behind - essentially the same as Chicago (Central Daylight Time) during this period.
