Countdown To Kickoff

  • 515 With 515 rushing yards at Boston College, it marked the most by any Irish team in a game since 1969 when they ran for 597 yards against Navy. It was good for a 10.1 yards per rush average, breaking the modern Notre Dame record (10.0) set against Great Lakes in 1942.
  • 15 Notre Dame is 15-for-15 this season when entering the red zone. The Irish are one of just 20 FBS programs to still be perfect on the season, but have converted on more opportunities than any of the other 19 teams.
  • 10 With the season-opening win over Temple, the Irish improved to 10-2 since 1985 when a first-time starting quarterback made his debut start at Notre Dame Stadium. All told, the Irish have won six straight games with a first-time starter at QB and are 18-6 in starting debuts since `85.
  • 9 This season, the Irish have put up nine rushes of at least 36 yards, including five runs for over 60 yards. Notre Dame had just seven rushes of at least 36 yards a season ago.
  • 8 RB Josh Adams ranks eighth nationally with 147.7 yards per game. That clip would shatter the school record, which is 130.6 by Vagas Ferguson in 1979.
  • 7 Irish punter Tyler Newsome ranks seventh in the nation with an average punt of 47.3 yards. His career average of 44.4 yards per punt currently stands as the best in school history (Craig Hentrich 44.1 from 1989-92).
  • 6 RB Josh Adams needed just six carries to eclipse the 100-yard rushing mark against Temple in the opener. It equals the fewest rushes for the junior to reach the 100-yard plateau, matching the 2015 Wake Forest game when his sixth run was a 98-yard TD scamper. Adams now owns 10 career 100-yard rushing games.
  • 5 RB Josh Adams ranks fifth in the nation with 443 rushing yards through the first three games. The junior is well on his way to a third season of at least 800 yards after becoming the first back in school history to run for over 800 in each of his first two seasons.
  • 4 QB Brandon Wimbush became just the fourth Irish QB since 1985 to be responsible for three or more TDs in his first start. Against Temple, Wimbush threw for two while rushing for one, becoming the first since current Notre Dame QB coach Tom Rees had three passing TDs against Utah in 2010. Matt LoVecchio and Ron Powlus are the other signal callers on the list.
  • 3 Shaun Crawford forced three turnovers against Boston College, intercepting two passes and recovering a fumble. He's the first Irish defender to force three turnovers in a game since Harrison Smith made three interceptions in the 2010 Sun Bowl, a 33-17 victory over Miami (Fla.).
  • 2 QB Brandon Wimbush ranks second in the nation with six rushing TDs this season. He trails only Oregon RB Royce Freeman (nine). With four rushing TDs at Boston College, he was the first Irish player to score four times on the ground since Emmett Mosley in 1994.
  • 1 For the first time in school history, Notre Dame had two players eclipse 200 rushing yards in the same game at Boston College. RB Josh Adams went for 234 yards, while QB Brandon Wimbush ran for 213 yards.
  • 0 No player in Notre Dame history has reached 2,000 career rushing yards on fewer carries than junior RB Josh Adams. He eclipsed 2,000 yards on his 316th career rush. The previous school record for fewest carries to reach 2,000 career rushing yards was 323 set by the legendary George Gipp.
