No. 9 Notre Dame Rebounds With 49-23 Win Over BYU
Brady Quinn threw for 467 yards and a school-record six touchdowns, four to Maurice Stovall, to lead No. 9 Notre Dame to a 49-23 victory over Brigham Young on Saturday that ended a four-game home losing streak. The Fighting Irish (5-2), who were beaten by BYU last season when they were held to 11 yards rushing, didn't try to run the much against the Cougars (3-4), instead depending on Quinn's passing to open up the BYU defense. Quinn broke the mark of five TD passes he set in an overtime loss against Michigan State earlier this season. He was 25-of-30 passing in the first half for a school-record 287 yards, and finished 32-of-41 passing.

Saturday is the 229th straight sellout at Notre Dame Stadium. Since 1966, every home game for the Irish has been a sellout except one - a 1973 Thanksgiving Day game vs. Air Force. Notre Dame has played in front of sellouts in 277 of its last 278 home games.

Notre Dame has played in front of sellout crowds in 249 of its previous 291 games (.856) overall.

Notre Dame has played before 620 sellouts in 892 total games (.695) since 1930.

Countdown to Kickoff

10 Ten of senior TE Tyler Eifert's 15 receptions this season have resulted in either a first down or touchdown for Notre Dame. He leads the Irish with 246 receiving yards this year. (Page 26)

9 Notre Dame has had 12 first-time starters in 2012. That total ties for the ninth-most first-time starters among all schools in a BCS automatic qualifying conference. Of the teams listed in this week's BCS top-25 rankings, only No. 23 TCU has started more first-time starters than the Irish. (Page 7)

8 The Irish have not allowed a rushing touchdown in eight consecutive games. The streak extends 34 quarters back to the second quarter against Boston College on Nov. 19, 2011. (Page 7)

7 Notre Dame is 6-1 in its last seven games decided by a touchdown or less. (Page 4)

6 Through six games, 39.1 percent of all drives against the Irish defense have resulted in three-and-out possessions. That percentage ranks sixth among schools from a BCS automatic qualifying conference. (Page 11)

5 Notre Dame has limited each of its past five opponents to less than 300 total yards. It's the first time the Irish have held five consecutive foes to less than 300 yards of total offense since the 1989 Fiesta Bowl and the first four games of the '89 season. (Page 8)

4 Junior CB Bennett Jackson leads the Irish with four interceptions. He is tied for fourth in the FBS in interceptions per game. Jackson's four picks are the most by a Notre Dame cornerback since Mike Richardson recorded four interceptions in 2006. (Pages 18-19)

3 Three of Notre Dame's six wins have been over teams ranked in the top 25 by Associated Press at the time of the game. The Irish are the only team in the FBS to have already defeated three ranked foes. (Page 5)

2 In the first BCS standings, Notre Dame has a composite ranking of second by the six computer rankings. The Irish are ranked No. 1 in the two computer polls produced by Wes Colley and Kenneth Massey. (Page 3)

1 Notre Dame ranks first in the nation in red zone defense. The Irish are tied with Alabama as opponents are scoring on 50 percent of its trips to the red zone. Notre Dame ranks first in the nation as teams are scoring touchdowns on only 12.5 percent of its trips to the red zone. The Irish also rank first in fewest points allowed per red zone trip as opponents are averaging two points per red zone appearance. (Page 12)

0 Zero touchdowns have been scored against the Notre Dame defense in the last four games (16 quarters). It is the longest streak by an Irish defense since the 1980 defense did not allow a TD in 23 consecutive quarters.
