NOTRE DAME, Ind.-- Tickets are now on sale for the 81st annual University of Notre Dame Football Banquet.

Former Notre Dame All-America quarterback and current ESPN analyst Joe Theismann will serve as guest speaker.

Tickets are $36 each and can be purchased at the Joyce Center second-floor ticket office (enter Gate 1 or 2) or by calling the ticket office at 219-631-7356. Cash, checks, VISA, MasterCard or American Express can be used for payment.

The banquet, sponsored by the Notre Dame Club of St. Joseph Valley, will be held Friday, Dec. 1, 2000, in the north dome of the Joyce Center on the Notre Dame campus. A reception on the concourse begins at 5:45 p.m. EST and the dinner begins at 7:00 p.m.

The program will include video highlights of the 2000 season and a special tribute to senior members of the 2000 Irish squad.

In addition to the dinner, all senior members of the 2000 Irish team will be available for autographs on the concourse during the reception. There also will be a silent auction of Notre Dame football photographs and memorabilia during the reception.

Proceeds benefit the Notre Dame Club of St. Joseph Valley Scholarship Fund.

Theismann earned first-team Associated Press All-America honors for the Irish as a senior in 1970. He led Notre Dame to consecutive Cotton Bowl appearances against top-ranked Texas following his junior and senior campaigns -- and he finished second in the Heisman Trophy voting as a senior behind Stanford's Jim Plunkett.

A former Academic All-American as well, Theismann completed 155 of 268 passes for 2,429 yards and 16 touchdowns as a senior in '70 -- setting Notre Dame single-season passing records for attempts, completions and yards. Theismann also holds single-game records with his 33 completions and 58 attempts for 526 yards versus USC in 1970.

A 12-year National Football League veteran, Theismann still holds Washington Redskin records for career passing yardage (25,206), completions and attempts. A two-time Pro Bowl selection, he led the 'Skins to victory over Miami in Super Bowl XVII. NFL Man of the Year in 1982, he was the league MVP in 1983.

With ESPN since 1988, Theismann is president and chief executive officer of J.R.T. Associates, the corporation which owns his four Virginia restaurants.
