Nov. 8, 2016

University of Notre Dame football player Drue Tranquill has been named Academic All-District for the second consecutive year by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). The junior moves on to the ballot for Academic All-America honors.

Tranquill boasts a 3.74 grade-point average as a mechanical engineering major in the College of Engineering and is second on the team with 60 tackles.

The Fort Wayne, Indiana, native is a candidate for both the Wuerffel and Lott Trophies in 2016 after missing both the 2014 and '15 campaigns due to injury. This season, he has started all nine games while recording 60 tackles, 37 solo, and 2.0 tackles for loss.

Off the field, Tranquill is a two-time Dean's List selection. He serves as a mentor for the Core Leadership Team for Lifeworks Ministry, is a member of Notre Dame Christian Athletes, Team Fellowship, AWP Sports in his native Fort Wayne, and is an athlete ambassador for Dream Teams. He is a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC) and the Rosenthal Leadership Academy, as well as Oasis Granger Church.

This season, Tranquill launched the "5th Quarter" postgame event, giving him the opportunity to share his story of perseverance over injury with the South Bend community.
