Irish End First Day at Prestige at PGA West

Feb. 20, 2018

Day One Results

LA QUINTA, Calif. After inclement weather prevented the first round of the Prestige at PGA West on Monday, the tournament officially kicked off on Tuesday morning. The loaded 16-team field, nine of whom were ranked inside the top-50, all competed on the par-71 Greg Norman Golf Course.

The Irish hit a few bumps along the way in the opening round, finishing in 14th place with a 302 (+18). However, just 11 strokes separate Notre Dame in its current spot on the leaderboard with a jump as high as seventh place.

Davis Chatfield led all Irish this afternoon, finishing in a tie for 27th with a 73 (+2). Only six strokes separate Chatfield from the leader Sam Triplett from Northwestern.

Chatfield found himself under par after earning a birdie on the 11th but ultimately finished at two-over on the back-nine. On the front, Chatfield recovered from bogeys on the fourth and sixth holes with birdies on holes seven and nine.

In addition, Ostrom finished the day with the second-best scoring on par-fives at two-under par, trailing just Stanford’s Franklin Huang. Ostrom ended up carding a 76 (+5). Lastly, Ben Albin’s 75 (+4) and Davis Lamb’s 78 (+7) rounded out Notre Dame’s countable scores.

The Irish will get another crack at the Greg Norman golf course on Wednesday morning, when the second and final day kicks off at 10:30 a.m. ET on holes No. 1 and 10. As always, fans can follow the scoring on
