Albin and Rushton Vault Into Top-20 at the 2016 ACC Championship

NEW LONDON, N.C. – Led by freshman Ben Albin’s three-under par 69, the Notre Dame men’s golf team shot a second round 292 at the 2016 ACC Championship, which is being played at the Old North State Country Club (Par-72; 7,102 Yards).

The Irish improved by seven strokes over their first round score and currently sit in 10th place, just three shots behind ninth-place North Carolina.

Albin posted a pair of birdies to go along with two bogeys and five pars for an even-par front nine. He caught fire on the back, playing his final nine holes at a three-under par clip, posting four birdies to go along with a bogey and four pars. He will enter the final round of play tied for 11th and just one stroke behind a group of five golfers currently tied for sixth.

Junior Matthew Rushton also finished under par in the second round, posting a one-under 71. He had six birdies on the day, including on two of the final three holes. He is even par (73-71-144) for the tournament and also inside the top-20 as he is tied for 18th.

Freshman Miguel Delgado put together a solid second round, improving by nine strokes from yesterday to score for the Irish as he posted a three-over par 75. He opened and closed his round with birdies and also added a birdie on the 14th. 

Junior Liam Cox shot a five-over par 77 to score for the Irish for a second consecutive day, while junior Blake Barens carded a second round 81.

Clemson (557) remains in first after two days of play, followed by Wake Forest (565) and Florida State (571).

On the individual leader board, Wake Forest’s Davis Womble (-7) leads by one stroke over Clemson teammates Bryson Nimmer (-6) and Austin Langdale (-6).

The 2016 ACC Men’s Golf Championship concludes tomorrow (April 24). The final round will feature a split tee start and Notre Dame, along with Boston College and Virginia Tech, will start on the 10th hole, with tee times beginning at 9:30 a.m.

Live scoring will be available through www.theacc.com, while the live ESPN3 broadcast will begin at 1:00 p.m. with Mac McDonald (play-by-play) and Brandon Turner (color analyst) serving as the announcing team.
