Irish Top Field With 18 Holes to Play

BEALLSVILLE, Md. -- Notre Dame's men's golf team has surged to the top of the 12-team leaderboard after 36 holes of play on Monday at the Georgetown Intercollegiate, being held at the par-71, 7,102-yard The Members Club at Four Streams in Beallsville, Maryland.

Less than a week after placing second in the Fighting Irish Gridiron Golf Classic by a single stroke, Notre Dame holds a four-stroke advantage over the host Hoyas heading into Tuesday's final round. The Irish carded a 284 and 276 on Monday for a 560 (-8). Georgetown holds a 564 (-4) after 36 holes while Eastern Michigan stands third at 567 (-1).

Player of the Day

Ben Albin stands atop the 67-member field after Monday's action, shooting a 66 and a 68 for a eight-under-par 134 on the day. He holds a two-stroke lead over his top challenger, Billy Walthouse of Rhode Island who carded a 136 (-6) on Monday. The 66 matched the opening round of Temple's Trey Wren for the lowest score out of 134 total rounds shot on Monday.

Notre Dame's Lineup

The Irish have six players competing in Maryland as Thomas Steve is playing as an individual in addition to the five scoring Irish golfers. Five of Notre Dame's six golfers carded at least one under-par round on Monday and four of the six shot at least one round in the 60s.

18 Holes To Go

The final round of action goes off at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday morning in Maryland with the Irish paired up with the Hoyas and Eagles. The Irish are vying for their first solo team championship in a field of at least eight schools since claiming the 2012 BIG EAST Championship, besting 11 other teams.
