-THE EVENT
2013 C&F Bank Intercollegiate, hosted by the College of William and Mary, March 24-26, Kingsmill Resort-River Course, Williamsburg, Va.

-THE LAYOUT
The River Course at Kingsmill Resort was designed by famed golf architect Pete Dye, and is bordered by the James River. The par-71, 6,381-yard layout was named a Top Ten Virginia course destination by Golfweek Magazine.

-KUBINSKI ON THE COURSE
"This is our first trip to Kingsmill, and we're certainly excited for the opportunity. I recall several PGA TOUR events being played there in the 1980s and 90s, when I believe Curtis Strange was the host professional, so it's a well-known pro venue. Assistant coach Scott Gump competed in the tour event at Kingsmill several times. With the evolution of equipment, it might not be the longest setup, but there is some rain in the forecast so it will play long enough. I believe there will be a premium on strong iron play as well.”

-TOURNAMENT FORMAT
The 54-hole stroke play tournament begins with the opening wave of tee times Sunday, tentatively scheduled to begin at 7:30 a.m. Players will play 18 holes each day with the collegiate five-count-four scoring format in effect.

-A STOCKED FIELD AWAITS
A total of 32 teams are expected to be represented this weekend at the C&F Bank Intercollegiate. Notre Dame will be joined on the River Course by Appalachian State, Binghamton, Boston College, Bowling Green, Bucknell, Drake, Eastern Kentucky, Eastern Michigan, Florida State, George Mason, Georgetown, High Point, IPFW, James Madison, Longwood, Loyola (Md.), Marquette, Michigan, Mount St. Mary’s, Radford, Richmond, Rutgers, St. Joseph’s, St. Peter’s, Tennessee, Toledo, Towson, UNC Greensboro, Wright, State, Xavier and host William and Mary.

-STARTING FOR THE IRISH...

NOTRE DAME, Ind.
– The University of Notre Dame men’s golf team will make its first-ever appearance this weekend at the C&F Bank Intercollegiate, hosted by the College of William and Mary, at the Kingsmill Resort-River Course in Williamsburg, Va.

“It's just good to get right back out at it after a somewhat disappointing finish in Georgia (last week),” Irish head coach Jim Kubinski says. “Our players' confidence is high, though. They recognize last week was our first time competing in five months as a team, and we were against teams already into their spring flow. We took some losses last week, but the margins showed we can play once we catch our stride.”

Notre Dame is one of 32 teams entered in the C&F Bank Intercollegiate, as the event has garnered one of the largest fields of any tournament in the country this season.

“We haven't played in a field this large, I'm not sure I've ever seen a college field as large,” Kubinski says. “It'll have a tour event feel with split tees in the morning and afternoon. I think it will offer a unique experience for our guys, and we're looking forward to competing."

Junior Niall Platt and senior Paul McNamara III will anchor the Irish lineup for the second consecutive week after each tied for 22nd place at the E-Z-GO Schenkel Invitational in Statesboro, Ga. last weekend. McNamara ranked in the top five in total birdies made on the Forest Heights Country Club layout (12), while Platt’s 37 pars were tied for the second-most in the tournament field. Junior Andrew Lane, who played his final nine holes in one-over par at the Schenkel, will again appear near the top of the Notre Dame starting five.

“Sophomore Tyler Wingo returns home to Virginia and to a course where he won as an AJGA player,” Kubinski says. “Having enjoyed success at Kingsmill will be a nice boost for him. Freshman Cory Sciupider will also make his travel lineup debut. He made one team start in the fall at home, while battling a long illness, but is healthy now and looking sharp.”

The first round of the C&F Bank Intercollegiate is set to begin Sunday, with the first wave of tee times tentatively scheduled for 7:30 a.m. The tournament will be scored using the five-count-four format, where only the top-four scores from each five-man team will be counted toward the team total.

“I look for a nice bounce back this week,” Kubinski says. “We did some good things in stretches at the Schenkel last week, so we'll look to build and improve upon that at Kingsmill.”
