    -KUBINSKI ON THE COURSE

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The University of Notre Dame men’s golf team returns to competition this weekend at the Irish Creek Collegiate, hosted by the Charlotte Regional Sports Commission, at The Club at Irish Creek in Kannapolis, N.C.

The Irish have not played a competitive round since completing the first round of the C&F Bank Intercollegiate March 24. After inclement weather conditions forced the cancellation of play on day two, the tournament was shortened from 54 to 18 holes. Notre Dame freshman Cory Sciupider earned co-medalist honors.

“After a nice Easter break, we're looking forward to competing again this weekend,” Irish head coach Jim Kubinski says. “It's our first trip to Irish Creek but, given its name, we expect to be right at home.”

Joining Sciupider in the starting lineup will be veterans Paul McNamara III, Niall Platt and Andrew Lane. Sophomore Patrick Grahek will make his first career start as a member of the Notre Dame starting five.

“Niall, Paul, Andrew and Cory will be back at it for us, and each has played well in various rounds so far this year,” Kubinski says. “We’re looking to put four scores together with them this week. Patrick has worked very hard for the opportunity and I expect he’ll play well.”

The first round of the Irish Creek Collegiate is scheduled to begin with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start Saturday, with the second round to immediately follow. The tournament’s final 18 holes will be contested Sunday, with an 8:30 a.m. expected shotgun start.

“This has been a fun team to be around. They've worked at it and are improving all the time,” Kubinski says. “We're not a finished product, so each day is an exciting opportunity to see how good we can become. I'm looking forward to the weekend at Irish Creek."
