NOTRE DAME, Ind. - University of Notre Dame men's golfer Max Scodro (Chicago, Ill.) has been tabbed BIG EAST Men's Golfer of the Month for September, it was announced by the conference on Tuesday. The Irish senior notched three top-15 results during the month while finishing as the top Notre Dame golfer at each of the three events.

Entering his final campaign with the Irish, Scodro sat third in career stroke average (minimum 35 rounds played) at 73.99 and after a three-tournament September slate that saw him finish fourth, tied for sixth and tied for 11th, Scodro has moved into second on that prestigious list with a 73.80 average.

In opening his 2011-12 season, Scodro earned a share of sixth at the Gopher Invitational (Sept. 11-12), finishing with a 54-hole total of 219 (+3) that saw him post a two under (70) opening round and an even par (72) final round of play. His steady play at the opener helped Notre Dame (884, +20) finish third at the event, four shots off the clip of the current top-ranked team in the nation, Arkansas.

Scodro parlayed that result into a tie for 11th (216, +6) at the Fighting Illini Invitational the very next weekend (Sept. 16-18), which featured one of the best collegiate fields offered by any tournament this season. In assisting his team earn a tie for eighth amongst the 15-team field, Scodro also helped Notre Dame earn wins over three teams (Duke, Ohio State, Augusta State) that appeared in the 2011 NCAA National Championship final four. He also netted the lone sub-par round for the Irish at the event, carding a final round 69 (-1).

Scodro's month concluded at Notre Dame's lone home event of the season, the Fighting Irish Gridiron Golf Classic (Sept. 26-27), where he earned his highest finish on the short season, finishing in fourth place (213, +3). His effort also helped the Irish record their second top-five result of the fall, claiming fifth with a three-round score of 880 (+40).

For his career, Scodro now has recorded 14 top-10 finishes, while having placed in the top five on eight occasions. He and the rest of the Irish rotation return to action Oct. 17-18 when they take to the links at the Invitational at Kiawah Island from The Ocean Course in Kiawah Island, S.C.
