Tyler Wingo looks to continue his steady play after sharing runner-up honors at the Earl Yestingsmeier Invitational last week

Oct. 21, 2012

-THE EVENT
2012 Georgetown Intercollegiate, Oct. 22-23, Members Club at Four Streams, Beallsville, Md.

-THE LAYOUT
The Members Club at Four Streams was designed by PGA TOUR veteran and major championship winner Nick Price and famed architect Steve Smyers. The par-71, 7,102-yard track is recognized as one of Maryland's finest golf facilities, and is the home course for the Georgetown University men's and women's golf programs.

-KUBINSKI ON THE COURSE
"I've heard great things about the golf course. I'm guessing the greens will have good speed to them. We're all looking forward to wrapping up our fall season with a strong finish, which should give us a nice boost of momentum as we head to our off season."

-AT THE GUN
The 54-hole stroke play tournament begins with a shotgun start Monday morning at 8 a.m. Players will complete two continuous 18-hole rounds on day one before finishing with a final 18 holes on Tuesday.

-REGIONAL FEEL TO THE EVENT
The 28th Annual Georgetown Intercollegiate will have a strong Midwest presence within its 12-team field. The following schools will be represented during the tournament: Host Georgetown (BIG EAST), Notre Dame (BIG EAST), DePaul (BIG EAST), Eastern Michigan (MAC), Miami (Ohio) (MAC), Michigan State (BIG TEN), Penn State (BIG TEN), St. Joseph's (Atlantic 10), Toledo (MAC), West Florida (Gulf South), William & Mary (Colonial), and Xavier (Atlantic 10).

-STARTING FOR THE IRISH...
The Notre Dame starting five are senior Paul McNamara III, junior Niall Platt, junior Andrew Lane, sophomore Andrew Carreon and sophomore Tyler Wingo. Sophomore Peyton Vitter is entered as an unattached competitor.

-TOURNAMENT RESULTS
Results will be posted on the UND Athletic Department Web site (www.UND.com) at the conclusion of each round. There will be no live stats during play.

-LOOKING AHEAD
Notre Dame will open its spring season March 11-12, 2013, at the Fighting Irish Match Play. The tournament will be held at the legendary Harbour Town Golf Links in Hilton Head, S.C.

BEALLSVILLE, Md. - The University of Notre Dame men's golf team will compete for the final time during its fall schedule Monday and Tuesday in the Georgetown Intercollegiate at the Members Club at Four Streams.

The tournament will be contested under the traditional collegiate five-count-four format, where the highest score from each five-man lineup is discarded from the team score at the end of each round.

This week's event marks the first full team tournament for the Fighting Irish since an eighth-place finish (300-295-290-885) at the Fighting Irish Gridiron Golf Classic Oct. 7-9 at the Warren Golf Course. Notre Dame's starting five will consist of senior Paul McNamara III (Palos Verdes Estates, Calif.), junior Niall Platt (Santa Barbara, Calif.), junior Andrew Lane (Fairport, N.Y.), sophomore Andrew Carreon (San Antonio, Texas) and sophomore Tyler Wingo (Fairfax, Va.). Sophomore Peyton Vitter (New Orleans, La.) will represent the Fighting Irish as an individual entrant.

"The three at the top, Paul, Niall and Andrew (Lane), have played well for us all season," Notre Dame head coach Jim Kubinski says. "They all seem far more comfortable out there right now. With solid preparation and given good health the next few days, I look for all three to play well."

Wingo claimed a share of second place last week at the Earl Yestingsmeier Invitational hosted by Ball State University. Wingo fired a pair of one-under par, 69s in his second and third rounds to post his best career finish as a member of the Fighting Irish.

"I'm excited by the way Tyler has been progressing," Kubinski says. "His short game, putting in particular, is very sound. He's gaining confidence with each week, as evidenced by his play at Ball State and his win over his teammates at home this week in our short game "Masters" tournament. He's doing a great job."

Carreon will be the fourth first-time starter for Notre Dame during the fall slate, joining Vitter, Wingo, sophomore transfer David Lowe (Scottsdale, Ariz.) and freshman Cory Sciupider (Etowah, N.C.). Carreon earned his starting spot after firing three straight rounds of 73 during the Fighting Irish Gridiron Golf Classic, logging a career-best finish with a tie for 15th place.

"AC, as we call him, played very well and very consistently for us throughout our home tournament," Kubinski says. "He is putting extremely well right now. I look for him to post some good scores this week, his confidence is high."

Kubinski also officially announced this week the venue for the opening tournament of the spring season. Notre Dame will host the Fighting Irish Match Play March 11-12, 2013 at the prestigious Harbour Town Golf Links in Hilton Head, S.C.
