Notre Dame's Noble Named CCHA Offensive Player Of The Week
University of Notre Dame senior center Steve Noble (Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario) has been named the Central Collegiate Hockey Association offensive player of the week, as announced today by the CCHA office.
Noble, the first three-year team captain in Notre Dame hockey history, scored the first goal and assisted on three others in Sunday's win over Brown at the University of Minnesota Mariucci Classic. Noble centered the first forward line over the weekend while filling in for the team's leading scorer, sophomore Ben Simon, who currently is playing with the United States at the world junior championship in Finland.
Noble is tied with junior right wing Brian Urick for second on the Irish in scoring this season, with 18 points. His 13 assists are tied with Simon for the team lead. The Academic All-America candidate also ranks fifth on the team in plus-minus (+7) and second for shooting percentage (.179, 5-for-28), among players with 14-plus shots. He has totaled just four penalties in 20 games while helping Notre Dame (10-8-2) exceed its victory total from the 1996-97 season (9-25-1).
