HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. - No. 12 Notre Dame fought back from a 3-1 deficit to send Sunday's matchup with 10th-ranked Boston University into overtime, and settled for a 3-3 decision as 3,545 fans watched on Sunday evening at the Sears Centre Arena. The Irish then scored the lone goal in the shootout and were credited with a third-place showing in the 2011 Shillelagh Tournament.

Trailing 3-2, Notre Dame had plenty of opportunities to cash in on a potential stalemate in the third. Boston (8-5-6) goalie Kieran Millan stopped 18 shots in the third but could not get in front of Sam Calabrese's short-handed goal with just under three minutes remaining. The neutralizer was Notre Dame's nation-leading ninth short-handed score of the campaign.

Six players tried their hand during the ensuing shootout, but Notre Dame's Calle Ridderwall was the only one able to find the back of the net.

With the shootout win, Notre Dame (12-7-3) earned third-place honors while hosting the Shillelagh Tournament. Minnesota State, who edged out the Irish with a last-second goal on Saturday, defeated Brown by a 7-3 margin to hoist the championship hardware.

Notre Dame out-shot Boston, 42-19, with Millan (5-3-6) finishing with 39 saves. Mike Johnson (9-5-3) saved 16 of Boston's 19 attempts.

Joe Pereira put the Terriers on the board with his team-high eighth goal - and second against the Irish this season as the two teams also met Oct. 10 - seven minutes into the game after a faceoff in front of the Notre Dame goal.

Notre Dame equaled the count with 4:15 left in the opener, as T.J. Tynan further cemented his stature as the leading scorer among CCHA rookies with his 14th goal of the season.

Tynan's late-period strike also continued a Boston University streak of allowing at least one goal in 19 straight periods, but that jaunt would be snapped in a scoreless second frame for Notre Dame.

Millan stuffed a flurry of Irish shots from point-blank range as Boston played one-man down to start the second set. Chris Connolly made it a 3-1 contest in favor of the Terriers when his shot caromed off Johnson's glove soon after a 17-minute delay during which arena officials replaced a shattered panel of glass.

Anders Lee's second point of the evening brought the Irish within striking distance, 3-2, with 13:51 left in the affair. Tynan and Sean Lorenz were credited with the assists.

The fans were treated to five minutes of free hockey although neither team could shelf a goal.

Callie Ridderwall racked Notre Dame's lone shootout goal while Johnson stopped each of Boston's three shots to end the evening.

Corey Trivino led all player with three assists.

Boston did not get off a power play shot in two stints with the advantage.
