COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Cal Burke scored near the end of the second period to break a scoreless tie and then Irish goals by Dylan Malmquist and Jake Evans 34 seconds apart early in the third period lifted Notre Dame to an eventual 3-2 win over #16 Ohio State on Saturday night at the Value City Arena (5,900).

With the win, Notre Dame (6-3-1, 2-0-0-0 B1G) posted a sweep of Ohio State (5-3-2, 1-3-0-0) in its first ever Big Ten series.

Evans finished with a goal and two assists, while Malmquist posted a goal and an assist and Peeke finished with two assists.

Sophomore goaltender Cale Morris totaled a career-high 39 saves for the Irish. With the Buckeyes looking to get back into the game in the third and pulling their goaltender several times, he made 22 of his 39 saves in the final stanza.

Both of Ohio State's goals came later in the third period with the goaltender pulled, including a 6-on-4 power-play goal and a 6-on-5 tally.

In the Buckeye net, Sean Romeo had 18 saves and then Tommy Nappier added two stops in his 7:59 of relief work.

COACH JACKSON'S THOUGHTS

On the weekend as a whole ...

"I can't be any more pleased with the outcome of the weekend. Not just winning on the road, but winning our first conference games against a good hockey team. I'm proud of the way the guys played."

On the team's defensive play, starting with the goaltending ...

"I thought Cale Morris certainly stood tall this weekend and I thought our defense played the way we expected them to when we started the year. We played smarter, only giving up a couple odd man rushes."

On getting some scoring across the lineup ...

"It was good to have Dylan Malmquist back, he contributed a lot this weekend. Especially when you have two of your top offensive guys out of the lineup [Andrew Oglevie and Joe Wegwerth], it is important we get production up and down the lineup. Cam Morrison is starting to come around and Cal Burke had a good weekend so that has been important for us."

NOTRE DAME GOAL DESCRIPTIONS

2-0 | Skating four-on-four, Jake Evans connected a pass from below the goal line to Andrew Peeke at the point. Peeke then fired a pass to just outside the crease, where Dylan Malmquist tipped in his second goal of the series.
