Morris Named Big Ten’s Second Star Of The Week

NOTRE DAME, Ind. -- Fighting Irish sophomore goaltender Cale Morris has been named the Big Ten’s Second Star of the Week, the conference announced on Tuesday (Jan. 9).


This past weekend (Jan. 5 & 7), Morris helped lead the top-ranked Irish to a pair of 2-1 victories over Michigan. In game one of the series, he stopped 35 shots in Notre Dame’s win at the Yost Ice Arena. Then on Sunday, Morris made 33 saves as the Fighting Irish won their 15th game in a row. The Larkspur, Colorado native finished the weekend with a .971 save percentage and a 1.00 goals-against average.


Morris has started each game during Notre Dame’s current winning streak, posting a 1.33 goals-against average and a .962 save percentage to go along with the 15 wins. On the season, he is 17-1-0 with a 1.47 goals-against average and an NCAA best .956 save percentage. His 17 victories also lead the nation.

 

Notre Dame now has a bye week before returning for a stretch run of six consecutive weekend Big Ten series to close out the regular season.

 

The Irish will be back in action with a Friday-Sunday series against Wisconsin on Jan. 19 and 21. Friday’s game will be played at 7:35 p.m. ET at the Compton Family Ice Arena, while Sunday’s game will take place at 3 p.m. ET/2 p.m CT at the United Center in Chicago.
