Notre Dame hockey team captain Cory McLean (Sr., Fargo, N.D.) is one of 11 CCHA hockey players to be named their team's 2004-05 Scholar-Athlete of the Year. From this group of players, the Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) will name its 2005 Scholar-Athlete of the Year on Wednesday, March 16 at its' annual awards banquet at the Fox Theatre in Detroit, Mich.

McLean has been a Dean's List selection at Notre Dame for three consecutive semesters and four of the last five during his academic career. He owns a 3.592 grade-point average as a Finance major in the Mendoza College of Business. Following last season, the senior center received special mention to the CCHA all-Academic team.
Notre Dame's team captain, McLean leads the Irish in scoring heading into the CCHA playoffs with five goals and 16 assists for 21 points. The 16 assists are a career-high for McLean. For his career, he is tied for fifth all-time in games played with 149 and has 26 goals and 41 assists for 67 career points.
The faculty representative at each school, in consultation with the head coach, selected the institution's Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Each school's Scholar-Athlete of the Year serves as the school's nominee for CCHA Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
Nominees must have a cumulative GPA of 3.25 through the fall term of the selection year to receive the school's Scholar-Athlete award. The CCHA award will be selected by the 12 faculty representatives, voting based on a system awarding five points for a first-place vote, three points for a second-place vote and one point for a third-place vote.
