Morris Named B1G Player & Goaltender of the Year

NOTRE DAME, Ind. -- University of Notre Dame sophomore hockey player Cale Morris has been named the Big Ten Hockey Player of the Year and Goaltender of the Year, as announced by the league on Tuesday.

Morris was also a first team All-Big Ten selection and was joined on the top all-league team by senior captain Jake Evans and senior Jordan Gross. In addition, junior forward Andrew Oglevie was selected as the team's Big Ten Sportsmanship Award honoree.

Cale Morris | So. | Goaltender

The Hobey Baker hopeful and All-America candidate is 23-7-1 on the season to go along with a 1.93 goals against average and a .946 save percentage. He leads the nation in save percentage and is tied for the national lead in victories. His goals against average led the Big Ten, as did his four shutouts.

In Notre Dame’s single-season record book, Morris’ save percentage would rank first all-time, while his goals against average would be third and his total saves would be sixth. Morris is a semifinalist for the Richter Award given to the nation's most outstanding goalie. Morris has also been named a Big Ten Star of the week eight times this season, including five First Star honors.

Jake Evans | Sr. | Forward

Evans leads the Irish with 38 points on 11 goals and 27 assists. He tied for the league lead with three game-winning goals while ranking among the conference's top 10 in points (tenth) and assists (eighth). For his career, Evans has collected 130 points on 39 goals and 91 assists in 152 games. His 130 career points are tied for 25th in program history, while his 91 assists rank 16th in in the Notre Dame record book.

Jordan Gross | Sr. | Defenseman

Gross has skated in all 154 games of his Irish career. This season, he has recorded eight goals and 17 assists for 25 points. He ranks fourth in the Big Ten in points per game among defensemen. His +11 rating is second on the team and he's blocked 39 shots on the year.

B1G Championship Game

The Irish play host to Ohio State in the Big Ten Tournament title game on Saturday, March 17, at Compton Family Ice Arena. Puck drops at 8 p.m. and the contest can be seen on Big Ten Network. Limited tickets remain and can be purchased here.
