NOTRE DAME, Ind. -- University of Notre Dame hockey players Andrew Peeke and Dylan St. Cyr have been named among the group of 42 players invited to Team USA’s 2017 World Junior Summer Showcase at USA Hockey Arena in Plymouth, Michigan (July 29 - Aug. 5).
Peeke, a defenseman, will begin his sophomore campaign in 2017-18, while goaltender St. Cyr will be joining the Irish for his freshman season.
At the World Junior Summer Showcase, games will be played between the United States, Canada, Finland and Sweden as an evaluation tool to help select the roster for the 2018 IIHF World Junior Championship which will be played on Dec. 6, 2017 - Jan. 5, 2018 in Buffalo, New York.
Peeke developed into one of the top young defensemen in college hockey last season. The only blueliner named to the 2017 Hockey East All-Rookie team, he finished the season with four goals and 10 assists for 14 points and he had four multi-point games. He skated in all 40 games and posted a plus-10 rating. He led Hockey East and finished third in the country with 95 blocked shots.
Peeke was a second round (34th overall) selection by the Columbus Blue Jackets in the 2016 NHL Draft. He played the 2015-16 season with Green Bay (USHL) and was named a USHL All-Rookie First Team selection. A native of Parkland, Florida, Peeke skated in the 2015-16 World Junior A Challenge, where he notched a goal and an assist in five games for Team USA.
St. Cyr played in 47 games with the US National Under-18 Team in 2016-17, finishing with a save percentage of .900, a goals against average of 2.66, and a record of 14-3-1. In 18 USHL games, he posted a 2.27 goals against average and a .912 save percentage. He was named to the USHL All-Academic Team and earned USHL Goalie of the Week honors twice. The 2016-17 season was his second stint skating with the U.S. National Junior Team after playing in 37 games for the Under-17 Team in 2015-2016.
A 5-8, 170-pound native of Northville, Michigan, St. Cyr skated in the 2016-17 Under-18 World Junior Championship, where he helped lead Team USA to the gold medal by posting a 7-0-0 record, had the best goals against average (1.96) and was named a Top Three Player on the team.
Dan Colleran, associate athletics communications director at the University of Notre Dame, has been a part of Fighting Irish Media since August 2015 and coordinates all media and publicity efforts surrounding the Notre Dame hockey and golf programs. A native of Walpole, Massachusetts, Colleran spent the previous three years working with the men’s hockey and soccer programs at Providence College. Colleran also spent two years as an Assistant Executive Director of Communications & Championships at the Ivy League and is a graduate of Providence College (’06 & ’08G).
