Notre Dame, Ind. - Notre Dame freshman center T.J. Tynan (Orland Park, Ill.) has been named the Central Collegiate Hockey Association's rookie of the week for games played the week of Nov. 1. In his two games last week at Bowling Green, Tynan scored a pair of goals and added two assists for a four-point weekend in the series split with the Falcons.

On Friday, Nov. 5, in a 3-2 loss at Bowling Green, Tynan scored Notre Dame's first goal of the game, a third-period power-play goal at 11:51 that made it a 2-1 game. He had five shots on the night and was +1 for the game.

The following night, Sat., Nov. 6, Tynan helped lead the 11th-ranked Irish to a 6-3 win with a career-high three-point game as he scored once and set up two other Notre Dame goals. The Irish trailed 2-1 after one period in this game but scored three times in 5:36 span early in the second to take the lead. After goals by Ryan Guentzel (Sr., Woodbury, Minn.) and Sean Lorenz (Jr., Littleton, Colo.) put the Irish ahead, 3-2, Tynan capped the three-goal spurt with his fourth goal of the season and the eventual game winner at 6:30.

The 5-8, 156-pound center took a pass from defenseman Joe Lavin (Sr., Shrewsbury, Mass.) near the left circle and fired a shot that appeared to fool Bowling Green goaltender Andrew Hammond, sneaking through his pads to put the Irish ahead, 4-2. In the third period, Tynan, who has become one of the quarterbacks on the Irish power play, set up man-advantage goals by Calle Ridderwall (Sr., Stockholm, Sweden) and Anders Lee (Fr., Edina, Minn.) to close out the scoring at 6-3. He had one shot in the game, picked up a blocked shot and was even for the contest.

After nine games this season, Tynan is tied for second on the Notre Dame stat sheet with four goals and six assists for 10 points with one power-play goal and one game winner. He is currently tied for seventh in the overall CCHA scoring race and leads all conference freshmen in scoring. His 10 points tie him for seventh in the nation among all freshman scorers.

Tynan and his Irish teammates are currently 6-2-1 overall and are 4-1-1-1 in the CCHA, good for 14 points, and are all alone in first place.

A product of the United States Hockey League's Des Moines Buccaneers, Tynan is the second Notre Dame player this season to be named CCHA rookie of the week as he joins Lee, who was selected the first week of the season.

The Irish return to action this weekend when they travel to Michigan for a pair of 7:35 p.m. games on Fri.-Sat., Nov. 12-13, at Yost Arena versus the Wolverines.
