    FIGHTING IRISH

    Dec. 1, 2009

Junior goaltender Brad Phillips has seen action in eight games this season for Irish. The Farmington Hills, Mich., native has 203 saves this year after sitting out last season with an injury. He spent two seasons with the U.S. National Team Developmental Program before joining the Irish. Phillips sat down with UND.com to tell us a little more about himself.

    1. What is your major and why does it interest you?
Sociology is my major. There's a variety of classes that you can take.

    2. What do you miss most about your hometown (Farmington Hills, Mich.)?
Probably my family. I had a couple friends back home, but I only went to school there for a couple of years. I went there freshman and sophomore year and then went to a different high school, so my family is important.

    3. What would you like to do after graduating from Notre Dame?
I'd like to pursue my hockey career and see if that works out.

    4. What is your favorite thing about playing hockey for Notre Dame?
Just the tradition here. My grandpa and my uncle also went here, and my uncle was the starting quarterback for the team here, so that's pretty cool. Both of them kind of persuaded me to come here.

    5. What is the worst part about playing hockey for Notre Dame?
The school aspect. School is tough, but hockey is fun.

    6. Does your number (30) hold any significance for you? If so, what?
No, I had two numbers to pick from - 29 and 30, so I picked 30. I was number 93 growing up though, and that had significance for me.

    7. When/how did you become interested in hockey?
I think I started skating when I was two. My dad got me going, and I always played hockey with my little brother when I was growing up. We used to play in the basement, and my dad would freeze ponds in the backyard.

    8. What is your best team memory playing at Notre Dame?
Making it to the national championship game.

    9. Do you have any specific role model for hockey?
Not really, I try to model my game after a couple of guys.

    10. Do you hold any personal goals for hockey?
I try to keep the team in every game and give us a chance to win.

    11. What was it like to play for the United States National Hockey Team?
It was fun. It was a great experience traveling to other countries, and it's awesome playing for your country. We toured Vienna, and that was really nice.

    12. Do you have any pre-game rituals/superstitions?
I just try to get a good stretch in the warm-up. I usually put the left side of all of my stuff on first, too.

    13. What song always gets you pumped up before a game?
I actually listen to the same song every time before I go out onto the ice, but I don't tell anyone because it's too embarrassing.

    14. What is your favorite place on campus?
Probably my dorm room. I like just hanging out with all of the guys on the team in there.

    15. If you had a sports drink named after you, what would it be called?
    "Phil's Secret Stuff"

    16. What hobbies do you have?
I just like playing other sports and cruising around on the internet.

    17. What attracted you to Notre Dame?
The campus, the education, and my grandpa and uncle.

    18. What is your favorite class?
    Probably psychology with Anre Venter.
