NOTRE DAME, Ind. - Sophomore attack David Ulrich (Baltimore, Md.) capped a fourth quarter three-goal rally with unassisted goal with 53 seconds remaining to lift the 13th-ranked Notre Dame men's lacrosse team to an come-from-behind 8-7 victory over the 19th-ranked Butler Bulldogs.

The win was the fifth in the last six games for the Irish who improved to 5-2 overall and 3-0 in the Great Western Lacrosse League. With the loss, Butler drops to 3-5 overall and 1-1 in the GWLL.

Notre Dame trailed 7-5 heading into the fourth quarter. After a 4-4 tie at the half, Steve Bishko (West Islip, N.Y.) put the Irish up 5-4 1:55 into the third quarter when he took a feed from Ned Webster (Baltimore, Md.). Butler, however, responded with three unassisted goals in the third. Mike Regan tied the score for the second time in the game when he scored on an unassisted goal with 6:07 remaining. The Bulldogs took the lead for the first time in the contest with 4;40 left when John Tamerlano's shot off a Chris Vosburgh feed got past Irish goalie Kirk Howell (Nashville, Tenn.). Less than two minutes later the Bulldogs went up by two goals (7-5) on Vosburgh's unassisted score.

Notre Dame was held scoreless for the majority of the fourth quarter. Tom Glatzel (Ellicott City, Md.) finally got the Irish back on the scoreboard when he intercepted a pass from Butler goalie Marc Ferrandino who was trying to clear the ball. Glatzel tossed the ball into an empty net and Notre Dame pulled to within one goal (7-6) with 6:23 remaining. Bishko netted his second goal off a feed from David Ulrich to knot the game at 7-7 with four minutes remaining in the contest.

Notre Dame had led 4-1 early in the second quarter, but the Bulldogs came back to tie the game at 4-4 before the intermission. Chris Dusseau (Columbus, Ohio) tallied the game's first goal off a David Ulrich assist and Brad Owen (Amherst, N.H.) scored the first of his two goals with 7:45 remaining. Doug Patterson scored midway through the first quarter.

Todd Ulrich (Baltimore, Md.) and Owen gave the Irish a 4-1 advantage with two goals at the start of the second quarter.

Notre Dame was outshot 37-30 in the game. Howell had another big outing for the Irish as he finished with 13 saves, the fourth game this season he has registered 10-plus saves in a contest. Ferrandino was also impressive in goal as he posted 14 saves.

Notre Dame returns to action on Saturday, April 3 when the Irish travel to 15th-ranked Hofstra for a 1:30 p.m. contest.
