NOTRE DAME, Ind. - The Notre Dame men's lacrosse team used eight different goal scorers to top Providence 11-3 on Saturday afternoon at a sunny and breezy Arlotta Stadium. The win was the first for the Fighting Irish in BIG EAST play.

Notre Dame (6-5, 1-3) broke the game open with an 8-0 run that started with 14:05 left in the second quarter and ended with 3:37 remaining in the third period. Freshman goalie John Kemp (Potomac, Md./Georgetown Prep) made the start in goal and earned his first career victory. Kemp made five saves and surrendered three goals in 55:25 of play.

Providence (0-10, 0-3) grabbed a 1-0 lead on a Pete Wujciak goal with 52 seconds left in the first quarter. That was the game's only goal of the first period.

The first of Notre Dame's eight straight goals came from junior midfielder Zach Brenneman (East Hampton, N.Y./East Hampton), who had a game-high four points on two goals and two assists. Tallies one minute apart from sophomore attackman Nicholas Beattie (Columbus, Ohio/Worthington Kilbourne) and senior attackman Neal Hicks (Atlanta, Ga./Lovett School) gave Notre Dame a 3-1 lead with 11:21 left in the first half.

A man-up goal from senior midfielder Grant Krebs (Annapolis, Md./St. Mary's) gave the Irish a three-goal lead with 5:31 showing on the clock in the second quarter. Freshman midfielder Steve Murphy (Shirley, N.Y./William Floyd) put Notre Dame up by four (5-1) heading into halftime as he found the back of the net with 3:59 left in the stanza.

The Fighting Irish surge continued when Brenneman scored with five minutes elapsed in the second half. Sophomore attackman Sean Rogers (New Hyde Park, N.Y./Holy Trinity) scored with 6:31 left in the third quarter to give Notre Dame a six-goal edge (7-1). A man-up tally from senior attackman Colin Igoe (Columbus, Ohio/Worthington Kilbourne) 25 seconds later made it an 8-1 contest.

The Friars halted the uprising as Colin Tigh scored with 3:37 left in the third quarter.

Rogers' second goal of the afternoon put Notre Dame back up by seven (9-2), while Beattie's second tally gave the Irish an eight-goal lead (10-2) after three quarters of play.

Following a Providence goal from Jake Nolan, Notre Dame freshman attackman Ryan Foley (Glen Ridge, N.J./Delbarton) netted his first career goal with 4:35 left in the contest to make it an 11-3 final.

Trever Sipperly (Greenwich, N.Y./Greenwich) won 13 of his 15 faceoff attempts. That marked a personal-best single-game winning percentage (.867) for the senior midfielder. Brendan Moore (Charlotte, N.C./Providence), a senior, replaced Kemp in goal for the final 4:35 of the contest.

Notre Dame out shot Providence 44-14. The 14 shots were the fewest allowed by the Irish defense this season. The three goals were the fewest surrendered by Notre Dame since a 12-2 victory over St. John's last season (4/19/09). The second-quarter shutout marked the sixth time this season that the Notre Dame defense has held an opponent without a goal for an entire quarter.

The Fighting Irish return to action on Saturday, April 24 at BIG EAST foe St. John's. Game time is slated for 1:00 p.m. (ET) in Queens, N.Y.
