Statistics

NOTRE DAME, Ind.-- Keith Cromwell scored with 6:42 remaining in the game to break a 12-12 tie and propel Rutgers to a 13-12 victory over the 13th-ranked Notre Dame men's lacrosse team. Notre Dame, whose record is now 3-2, was led by junior attack Chris Dusseau with four goals.

The Irish had battled back from a 9-5 deficit in the third quarter by scoring four goals in 4:45. The teams then traded goals to enter the fourth knotted at 11. Rutgers pulled ahead with 13:01 remaining on a goal by Craig Buckley but Dusseau answered three minutes later to tie the game again. Notre Dame had the ball for one last shot but senior midfielder Jimmy Keenan's attempt with one second left never reached the goal.

The Irish led only once in the game, a 3-2 advantage late in the first quarter. Rutgers' Brody Bush, who finished with five goals and two assists, then scored three consecutive goals to put the Scarlet Knights up 5-3. In the second quarter, Rutgers outscored the Irish 5-2 and went into halftime with a 7-5 lead.

Keenan had two goals and two assists for the Irish while freshman attack David Ulrich led the team with four assists. Senior goalie Alex Cade played all 60 minutes and made 11 saves.

Notre Dame returns to action next Saturday, March 28 when it faces Hobart in Geneva, N.Y. at 2:00 p.m.
