#9 Notre Dame Improves to 2-0 with 12-7 Victory over Denver
AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. - Attackers Ben Savage and David Ulrich
led a balanced Notre Dame scoring attack as they tallied a goal and
dished off an assist to lead the ninth ranked Irish men's lacrosse team
to a 12-7 victory over Denver at the United States Air Force Academy
Falcon Lacrosse Field.
Midfielders Burke Hayes and Mike Seaman each scored a goal and added two
assists, while Jimmy Keenan and Chris Dusseau netted two goals to lead
the Irish in the victory.
Denver was led by attackman Geoff Bieging, who scored two goals and
added two assists, and Mike Law who scored twice and added an assist.
Notre Dame jumped out to a 5-1 lead after the first quarter with Dusseau
scoring twice for the Irish in the 15-minute stanza. Keenan got the
Irish on the scoreboard 21 seconds into the game off an assist by
Ulrich, followed by Ulrich unassisted goal with 13:54 left to play in
the first quarter. Notre Dame scored twice in the final 24 seconds of
the quarter on goals Dusseau and Savage.
Notre Dame outscored the Pioneers 3-2 n the second quarter with Ulrich,
Savage and Keenan each tallying once.
Denver opened up the third quarter Bieging scoring at the 13:16 mark,
but then Notre Dame scored three unanswered goals as the Irish finished
the third quarter with a 11-4 lead.
Dan Butler capped the Irish scoring for the Irish to start the fourth
quarter with 10:22 remaining in the contest. Denver scored the final
three goals of the game with the last coming with just 29 second
remaining in the game.
Notre Dame returns to action tomorrow (Monday, March 9) against Air
Force at the same field in a game that was postponed on Saturday, March
7 because of inclement weather.
