Irish Welcome Top-Ranked Terrapins to Arlotta Stadium on Saturday

Notre Dame Game Notes

NOTRE DAME, Ind. --
No. 4/4 Notre Dame hosts No. 2/1 Maryland in a marquee non-conference matchup at Arlotta Stadium. Both teams enter the weekend with perfect records. Faceoff is slated for Noon (ET). The game will be broadcast live on ACC Network Extra and can be found on the WatchESPN app or at WatchESPN.com.

Irish Vs. No. 1

  • Saturday’s matchup with Maryland will be the fifth time the Irish have squared off against a top-ranked opponent.
  • The Irish were victorious in the most recent showdown against a No. 1 team, as Notre Dame defeated Syracuse 13-12 in two overtimes in 2015.
  • Notre Dame’s athletic programs have a history of handing losses to the country’s top-ranked programs. The football and men’s basketball teams have each toppled the No. 1 team eight times. Tewaaraton Award Watch List Announced

  • The Tewaaraton Award Watch List was released on Tuesday, February 28 and the Irish placed four players in senior goalkeeper Shane Doss, senior midfielder Sergio Perkovic, junior long stick midfielder John Sexton and junior attackman Mikey Wynne
  • Notre Dame’s four student-athletes on the list were more than any other program in the country. The Irish have placed four members on the watch list in two of the last three seasons.

Offensive Outburst

  • Notre Dame has posted 16 goals in each of its first two games of the season, which is tied for the lead in the ACC and ranks fourth in the country for goals per game.
  • The Irish have not trailed in either of the two games during the 2017 campaign.
  • Notre Dame has won by an average of 8.5 goals per game, ranking second in the country for scoring margin.
  • 11 Notre Dame players have scored this season, with seven posting multiple goals.
  • Ryder Garnsey leads the Irish with eight goals and Mikey Wynne has added seven. Sergio Perkovic, Brendan Gleason and Bryan Costabile have each found the back of the net three times this season.

Owning the Openers

  • With the win over Georgetown, Notre Dame is 30-7 all-time in season openers, including a 24-5 record in the Kevin Corrigan era.
  • The Irish have won a program-record 15 straight season openers.
  • Notre Dame opened the 2017 season with a 16-10 win over Georgetown on Saturday, February 18 in Frisco, Texas at the Ford Center at The Star.
  • The Irish last dropped a season opener in 2002, a 10-9 overtime setback at home against Penn State.
  • In home openers the Irish are 32-4 in program history and 25-3 under Corrigan.

Last Time Out

  • The Irish defeated Michigan by a final score of 16-5 to improve to 2-0 on the season.
  • Notre Dame closed the game by scoring nine unanswered goals over the final 28:50 to secure the win.
  • Mikey Wynne led the Irish with three goals, marking his second hat trick of the season in as many games.
  • The Irish outshot the Wolverines 54-21 for the game. Notre Dame posted double-digit shots in all four quarters.

Robby Hamman joined Fighting Irish Media as athletics communications assistant director in September 2016, coordinating efforts for the volleyball and men's lacrosse program. Hamman is a 2010 graduate of Bethel College, where he earned bachelor's degrees in sport management and business administration, and earned his master's degree in business administration from Defiance College in 2013.
