Notre Dame, Ind. - Notre Dame midfield John Flandina (West Islip, N.Y.) has been selected as the Great Western Lacrosse League (GWLL) Player of the Week. The Irish senior earns the honor for the first time in his career after scoring three goals and dishing off three assists in a 15-8 win on Sat., March 30 at Denver.

Flandina is the first Irish lacrosse player to earn the award this season. He ranks among the squad's leading scorers in 2002 with four goals and a team best 11 assists. A two-year starter, he has played in 51 career games and scored 38 goals, while dishing off 27 assists (65 points). Flandina was named to the Preseason Honorable Mention All-America Team by Face-Off Yearbook.

Notre Dame, 2-5, is ranked 18th in this week's Warrior/Inside Lacrosse.com media poll. The Irish play two GWLL contests this week on the road when they travel to Air Force on Tues., April 2 and to Butler on Sun., April 7.
