Irish Host Marquette In Sunday's NCAA Championship Opener

NOTRE DAME, Ind. -- 
Notre Dame hosts Marquette in the first round of the NCAA Championship at noon ET on Sunday, May 14 at Arlotta Stadium. The Irish are trying to advance to their eighth straight quarterfinal, the longest active streak of any program in the country. 

The game will be broadcast live on ESPNU/WatchESPN with John Brickley (play-by-play) and Matt Ward (analyst) on the call.

Youth Promotions

  • The first 300 youth fans (18 and under) will receive a free hot dog by presenting their ticket at the Arlotta Stadium Hospitality Tent on the main concourse.

  • All youth lacrosse fans are encouraged to wear their jerseys. And all youth lacrosse fans 8th grade and under will be recognized at halftime.

Postseason Success

  • Notre Dame and Maryland are the only two programs to earn a spot in the NCAA Championship field in each of the last 12 seasons.

  • Notre Dame is the only program to advance to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Championship in each of the last seven campaigns.

  • The Irish are 13-7 over the last seven NCAA Championships, including national semifinal apperances in 2012 and 2015 and title game appearances in 2010 and 2014. 

  • Notre Dame owns an 18-21 record in 21 previous trips to the NCAA Championship.

  • This is the 10th time overall--and ninth time in the last 10 seasons--the Irish have earned one of the eight national seeds for the NCAA Championship.

  • The Irish advanced to the NCAA championship weekend in 2001, 2010, 2012, 2014 and 2015 and played in the title game in 2010 and 2014.

NCAA Championship Games At Arlotta

  • Sunday’s matchup with the Golden Eagles will be the eighth NCAA tournament game played at Notre Dame.

  • The Irish are 7-1 when hosting an NCAA game and have won six straight matchups.

  • Notre Dame has recorded wins over Colgate (2008), Princeton (2010), Penn (2011), Yale (2012), Detroit (2013), Harvard (2014), Towson (2015) and Air Force (2016).

The Marquette Series

  • Sunday will be the sixth meeting all time between Notre Dame and Marquette. The Irish have not lost in the matchup, as Notre Dame has a perfect 5-0 record in the all-time series. 

  • The last installment between the two sides came earlier this season at Arlotta Stadium. The Irish won the game in the final minute of regulation by a final score of 11-10. Sergio Perkovic dominated the game, scoring a career-high six goals, including the game winner with under 30 seconds left in the contest.

  • The Irish have squared off against the Golden Eagles in each of the last five seasons.

  • Notre Dame holds a 3-0 edge over Marquette in the series when playing at home.

  • The NCAA Championship first round matchup marks the first between the two sides in postseason action.

The 100 Club

  • Senior midfielder Sergio Perkovic and junior attackman Mikey Wynne both reached the 100-goal milestone during the 2017 season.

  • Perkovic became just the seventh player in Notre Dame history to reach the 100-career goal milestone against Duke on April 8. Perkovic scored two goals in the game.

  • Twenty of Perkovic’s goals have come in NCAA Championship games and he has 17 hat tricks in his career.

  • Wynne is just the eighth player in program history to surpass the 100-goal mark, as he scored three times against Army on May 6 to reach the milestone.

  • For the first time in Notre Dame program history the Irish have two 100-plus goal scorers on the same team in Perkovic and Wynne.

  • Sergio Perkovic has been named a finalist for the 2017 Senior CLASS Award. Vote here.
  • The Senior CLASS Award recipient will be announced during the 2017 NCAA Men’s Lacrosse National Championships® in Boston, May 27-29.

  • To be eligible for the Senior CLASS Award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition.

Gleason's Breakout Season

  • Sophomore Brendan Gleason is playing the best lacrosse of his career entering the 2017 NCAA Championship. 

  • Gleason has posted back-to-back hat tricks over his last two games, marking the first two of his career.

  • The midfielder turned attackman led the Irish with a career-high four goals at Army.

  • Gleason is fourth on the squad in points with 25, consisting of 20 goals and five assists. 

  • Gleason has led the Irish in goals four times this season, including in the final of the ACC Championship against UNC. He scored three goals, marking the first hat trick of his career and was named to the ACC All-Tournament Team.

"Wynne"ing

  • Junior attackman Mikey Wynne was named the ACC Offensive Player of the Week on April 24 after his impressive offensive performance in the 14-13 win over North Carolina (4/22).

  • Wynne scored a season-high five goals on just seven shots against the Tar Heels.

  • The junior has a team-high 28 goals on the season for the Irish and 101 for his career.

  • Wynne is the eighth player in program history to reach the 100-goal milestone.

  • The junior has recorded five hat tricks on the season and 14 goals in the last five games.

  • Wynne leads the team in shot percentage with a mark of 0.483, ranking second in the ACC and sixth in the country for the stat.
