NOTRE DAME, Ind. - University of Notre Dame senior defenseman Matt Miller has been named a United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) Scholar All-American. Miller is among 92 student-athletes across Division I, II and III to receive the honor.

The USILA Scholar All-America Program was established in 1989 to recognize student-athletes from USILA member institutions who have distinguished themselves academically, athletically and as citizens of their communities. The Scholar All-Americas are recognized at the annual Lacrosse All-America Banquet.

Miller (Warrenton, Va./Notre Dame Academy) started every game this season in Notre Dame's close defensive unit and earned first team all-BIG EAST honors in addition to being a finalist for the Senior CLASS Award. Miller, an Irish team captain, was a key reason why Notre Dame was ranked in the top-10 nationally in scoring defense all season long. The Irish finished the campaign with an 8.31 goals-against average.

Miller graduated this past weekend with a finance degree from Notre Dame's nationally-ranked Mendoza College of Business. He finished with a 3.126 cumulative grade-point average.

Last season, Miller earned honorable mention All-America honors in addition to being named to the All-BIG EAST Second Team as he helped the Irish boast the nation's top defense by allowing just 6.31 goals per game. The Rochester Rattlers selected Miller in the sixth round (44th overall) of January's Major League Lacrosse Draft.

Notre Dame went 11-5 this season and earned the No. 2 seed in the NCAA Championship. That was the highest seed ever for the Fighting Irish program. Notre Dame defeated five top-10 teams and concluded the regular season with the nation's top RPI. The Irish fell to Duke, 12-11, Sunday in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Championship.
