March 10, 1998 Track and Field Representatives to Compete at Indoor ChampionshipsJoAnna Deeter and Errol Williams have been selected to participate.NOTRE DAME, Ind. -- Notre Dame sophomore distance runner JoAnna Deeter and senior hurdler Errol Williams have been selected to particiapte in the 1998 NCAA indoor track and field championships which will be held March 13-14, at the RCA Dome in Indianapolis. Deeter will run in the 3,000 meters on Sat., March 14, while Williams will run in the 55-meter hurdles on Fri., March 13. Deeter qualified with a time of 9:30.82, the best time in Irish history and the 15th best time in the 17-runner field. She finished third in the 3,000 meters at the BIG EAST indoor championships and will be making her first appearnace in the NCAA track and field championships. Deeter earned cross country All-America honors as a freshman in 1996 with a third-place finish in the NCAA championships. She will be the first runner from Notre Dame to particiapte in the 3,000 meters at the NCAA indoor championships. Williams won the BIG EAST championship in the 55-meter hurdles with his time of 7.26 which broke the 11-year old school record of 7.29 and was the 12th fastest time of the 15-runner field. He also won the 60-meter hurdles at the Meyo Invitational. Williams has twice run in the 110-meter hurdles at the NCAA outdoor championships in 1995 and 1997 and but will be making his first appearnace in the indoor championships. He is the first hurdler from Notre Dame to run in the 55-meter hurdles since Tom McMannon won the 55-meter hurdles title in 1972. |
